Sorry I may have misread your problem.

You will need to download MediaInfo and post the 'text' results to this post for us to look at. Just because a file will play back in a video playback program doesn't mean it will work correctly in a video editing package. We need to know why.

I think the problem may be this line of the MediaInfo data:

• Sampling rate                            : 44.1 kHz

If your MS project is set for 48kHz Audio Sampling rate I have encountered situations where files with 44.1kHz audio do not play in MS or VPX, especially when, as in your case, the audio is in mp3 format.

So, try using the free Handbrake or similar to convert the audio of your file to 48kHz and .wav format. Does it now play successfully?

I think this is the issue:

The audio AVC/MP3 combination is normally seen in digital/cable TV broadcast stream, and can act as a form of copy/record protection.

The AVC/MP3 format is not supported by Movie Studio or many other video editors. Out of curiosity I also tested in Vegas Pro and it too does not support this combination.

The video clip needs the audio converting to one of the 2 AVC video standard formats ie AAC or AC-3.

AAC is the preferred option, AC-3 is not advised as on export it will be converted to AAC if exporting as MP4 h.264/AVC encoded video.

I also have had this problem, usually when I've been asked to "cleanup" somebody elses edit. I use a few different ways to get round the problem, one of which is as described above by Jeff @emmrecs.

One of the easiest I've found with the AVC/MP3 combo is to demux the file (I use MyMP4Box https://www.videohelp.com/download/My%20MP4Box%20GUI%20v0.6.0.6.7z ), load the original file into Movie Studio, ungroup the video and delete the audio, then add the MP3 you've previously demuxed from the original, not forgetting to re-group the video and audio.

It works for me with NO re-encoding of either video or audio. At least try it, it may work for you.

ps I've mentioned this in another post on the forum; an alternative to MyMP4Box is Pazera Audio Extractor (https://www.videohelp.com/download/Pazera_Free_Audio_Extractor_64bit_PORTABLE_2.11.zip) using direct copy. The end result is the same

I was lucky, I found both original separate Video (MP4) and Audio (MP3) files. I imported both in separate tracks and everything looks like if it is working fine. I still need to do minor adjustments.
Quick question though: would you reccommend to join both tracks together before transfering into final MP4 format file or keep them separate?

Assuming you mean group the 2 object together - the option is yours to decide, you don't have to group the video and audio together

Personally I would say, particularly if you find that you are going to do any further editing at a later date eg you find an error or something could be done better.

Once grouped any further edits eg cutting, removing sections etc, will be done on both the video and sound.

A question for you all. When I was perusing the specs of Video Saver, I saw a note that saying that Windows Media Player is required for MP3 import. Movie Studio doesn't say that.

Do any of you who have had the import problem with MP3 audio in a video file have WMP installed?

I have both Windows Media Player Legacy and MPC-HC (64-Bit) installed and in MS2024 I DO get the MP3 problem when it's in an AVC/MP3 MP4 container.
