New patch 15.0.4.176 for VPX released

I haven't tested it yet; just about to start. Hopefully, it will resolve many of my problems.

Changes in version 15.0.4.176:

Fixed error that led to deactivation of hardware acceleration
Fixed crashes that occurred when using title editor
Fixed crash that occurred when using effect transitions and titles
Fixed crash for "Immediate update"
Fixed error that prevented program from closing
Fixed portrait photo distortion when using horizon straightening effect
Fixed problem with DeNoiser
Fixed problem where some projects could not be opened
Fixed error where error dialogs appeared repeatedly when audio functions
were used (also during project load)
Fixed hangup during playback of a created DVD on some players
Fixed judder that infrequently occurred during playback of a created
DVD
Fixed error during export of DVD with PCM sound
Fixed crash that infrequently occurred during import of .gif files
Quality improvement to dithering for previews

First tests on my Surface Pro 4:

HDR Gamma now works;
The new NB Essentials 3 and 4 with the OFX interface still cause the clip to go black. This is bad and I have replied to Magix that they should either fix it right away or revert to the NB interface that worked properly prior to patch 171;
Using the Insert command (or shortcut 2), still creates an empty space after the insert equal to the length of the inserted object.

Continuing on with testing. Anyone find other bugs, fixed or not?

Thanks for the info John. A couple of good ones in there for you and Doug ie. the deactivation of HW Accel and the horizon straightening.

The Denoiser one must fix the NoisePrint Buzz problem.

Not sure what the "Immediate update" problem / fix is and if it helps Doug any?

I wonder if they fixed the .MXV Proxy creation so that it makes editing and playback smoother instead of worse?

Great news about the HDR fix - about time!

It was under Help, Update online. I also received a link from Magix support but didn't use it. Here is the link.

Unfortunately, I just checked About in VPX on my Surface Pro 4 and I'm back to the same problem that I had several months ago. The activation code no longer shows and in its place "0 days still remaining." The program still works, but I doubt that the next update will take, as I found out last time. Most annoying. I will report this to Magix.

Hmmm, I wondering if Magix pulled the patch due to the new problems or just rolling out the patch by region. I doubt the latter as the UK would most likely get precedence over Canada.

Note, the link in my post is to the 176.exe file. I'm downloading it (237 MB) now as I expect that I will have to uninstall, reinstall VPX using the Microsoft tool. I am also waiting for a reply from Magix about this to know if 176 should be used at all, and if not, what to do.

I see that the German and French forums have also listed patch 176 fixes.

Have just downloaded and installed the 171 patch via Update online. Everything fine so far, though extensive testing not yet done.

I recently received a survey request about Magix support. I answered today and failed them. The answers to the 3 questions were: 1. Unhappy; 2. Not resolved; 3. Would not recommend to others based on support.

They provided a nice big space for comments. Basic comments were: fix the bugs, don't add new bugs, reply to everything on the list that I send, not just one or two, don't tell 3 or 4 users who complain about the same problem and demonstrate the problem that the problem doesn't exist and then the next patch strangely fixes the fictitious problem; read the comments from dissatisfied users on the forums; speed up replies - 1 week for a well-documented bug is far too long; etc. And did I mention fix the bugs?

Good luck with the patch! Hope it doesn't create new problems.

I was able to download the .176 patch from your posted link. Too scared to install it now....!

Probably a wise move. However, for me, there is a small improvement as I can now use HDR gamma, but a big loss because I will have to reinstall VPX to get the next patch. When I get home on the weekend, if a new patch has not been issued, I will likely install 176 on my desktop as it is pretty much unusable right now. Can't see the video clips in the preview monitor. So it seems that Magix has issued 2 disastrous patches in a row. If I was making a living at this, I probably would have jumped ship.

The least that they can do is to issue some kind of an apology and an explanation as to what to do. Even better, issue a patch to undo the last 2 patches. Since we can no longer keep the patches (except this one) it makes it difficult to roll back when a disaster happens.

Eureka! Well, at least a workaround. I opened MEPP 2016 wondering if, by any chance, the latest NB Essentials 3 and 4 were accessible. They were not on the main effects menu and I clicked on "Extra effects" and, lo and behold, there they were, completely usable with the normal NB interface. So, I opened VPX9, patch 176, and did the same thing. There they were, both the regular NB ones and the OFX ones. I am able to use the NB interface with no problems. Now, why didn't Magix tell me that when I raised the issue?

I'll still have to reinstall VPX on my Surface Pro for the next patch.

I am not sure what is going on at your end John but I have always been able to see and use both NB interfaces in MEP and VPX, at least on the NB effects that came with the programs?

Can you not use the Microsoft uninstalling tool you gave us the link for, to just remove just the patch?

I am (almost) sure that the regular NB effects did not show up when I clicked on the drop down for NB Essentials 3 and 4. I now see them. Must have been blind.

However, the NB OFX do not work and one of them causes a crash, consistently. Please check to see if V4 Drop Shadow causes a crash.

Here is what happens. Note the About screen as well. Still on my Surface Pro 4.

Looks like it is the 'I can't see' season, your are the third person in 2 days, me being one of them.

Some of the NB OFX do the same as you are experiencing eg Video Essentials 3 and 4 in both VPX and MEP.

In my case, I see both black screens and crashing/freezing. I've yet to discover exactly which NB effects cause which variety of the problem.

I will attempt to narrow it down over the next few days.

Hi,

I'm home now and back on my desktop computer, first with patch 171 and then 176. Here is a video showing my problems. Sorry about the sound. The capture program that I use does a terrible job at capturing audio from my mic, VPX does a good job with the same mic setup, but I didn't want to redo the audio.

There was no improvement with patch 176, but at least it did not break the installation like it did on my Surface Pro 4.

Note that there is no problem seeing the videos in other versions, like MEP2016P and VPX6 and 7. The problem started with patch 171.

VPX is now basically unusable on my desktop.

I will send the video to Magix and request a way to set the patch back to 163, or else send me a patch that works.
