Hi

The FTP (Upload) settings allow you to upload a site to one location only.  When you upload the second site this is overwiting the first - I presume that this is what you are seeing.

It should be possible to host 2 small websites by placing them in seperate folders and pointing the domain names to the individual folders on the hosts.  You need to check that you can point your second domain name to a specific folder on the host.

The easisest way to upload the sites is to use a FTP program such as Filezilla (IMHO the best) to upload the sites to the individual folders. Magix has instructions to do this here - scroll down to near the bottom of the page - Additional instruction - on the right side (the remote pane) you would select the appropriate destination folder.

Thanks for the quick reply,

I have been uploading onto MagixWeb FTP,

I did 2 separate folders like this

I then allocated the correct ones to each domain in the My FTP Website

At first only one website was working on both (as you said) but now I cant get either to work.

So do I use Firezilla instead of the Magix web FTP (as I used in the image)

Thanks for your help John

Hi

. . . . So do I use Firezilla instead of the Magix web FTP (as I used in the image) . . .

Yes - because you can choose the destination folder it is the easiest way.

. . . . At first only one website was working on both (as you said) but now I cant get either to work. . . . .

That is probably because the sites are mixed up.

Assuming you have published both sites to your PC, ie have a backup of both sites then, using Filezilla, trash both sites on the host, and re-upload them to the correct folders.

Hi,

Some hosting providers allow multiple web sites on certain hosting accounts.  I do not see any indication on the Magix web site that they do.  You will probably need to purchase a hosting account for your second site, or bury your second site within the main one and link to it from the home page of the first site.

Hi

I have been doing some testing with Xara and you can have multiple sites in the free hosting package.

However there are some rules/conditions which must be followed ( you may have done some of these already ):-

1.  The website URLs are case sensitive - ie if website 1 is in a folder called Site1  then the registered domain name  must point to xxxxxxxxx.magix.net/Site1/   where xxxxxxx is your username - xxxxxxxxx.magix.net/site1/ will not work.

2.  On your PC keep the websites in seperate folders as shown here on the test sites I created

3.   In Xara set up your FTP settings using the Other website option as shown below

Fill in the FTP details for your Magix Online account and add one of the two folders names as shown in the example

4.   When editing in Xara select the appropriate web site folder to edit and save to.

5    To publish - use the File, Publish website... option and change the sub folder shown in the image below to match the subfolder you want to publish to

One question -

In Xara when adding new pages to a website are you using the File, New page option or the Edit, Pages . . . option? If the former then your pages will not link together.

I would keep Filezilla for zapping the sites quickly if the need arises.

@ John, interesting concept.  One question, do both domains need to be registered with or transferred to Magix Online, or can you for example use your magix url and one say for example purchased through GoDaddy or some other vendor and do the same thing?  It that could be done, it would be very cool.

Hi

AFAIK you can use any domain name provider - so long as the url / folder convention is met
