I have Movie Edit Pro Premium 2021 and when I try to work with some MP4 files I download from YouTujbe, I get MXMPEG2 Error 0110: no media decoder found.

Can I get an MXMPEG2 decoder for my software? MAGIX Movie Edit Pro Premium Version 20.0.1.80 (UDP3) UG code 8453 KA1

Sounds odd. Can you give us the link to one of the You tubes? I have MEP 2021 still installed and will see if I get the same here.

All my forum comments are based on or refer to my System 1.

My struggle is over! I built my (now) system 2 in 2011 when DV was king and MPEG 2 was just coming onto the scene and I needed a more powerful system to cope. Since then we've advanced to MP4 and to bigger and bigger resolutions. I was really suffering, not so much in editing (with proxies) but in encoding, which just took ages. A video, with Neat Video noise reduction applied, would encode at 12% of film speed. My new system 1 does the same job at 160% of film speed. Marvellous. I'm keeping my old system as a capture station for analogue video tapes and DV.

MP4 is a container and can contain a few different codecs within them. My first thought was that the YouTube video you downloaded has HEVC as a codec - a Mediainfo scan can confirm that, See https://www.magix.info/us/forum/please-do-the-following-before-posting-your-question--621831/

This problem was also discussed here https://www.magix.info/us/forum/mxmpeg2-error-0110-no-media-decoder-found--1264121/

I've downloaded the 1080 version from Youtube and it is a standard AVC/H264 MP4. It opens OK here in MEP 2021.

I can't say what is causing your MEP 2021 to throw up that message. Odd.

Could you post the MediaInfo readout from your problem file? Details on installing Mediainfo are here.

That may give us some clues on the problem.

Hi

From the MediaInfo data:

Format                                   : vp09
Codec ID                                 : vp09

The VP09 codec is not supported by MEP 2021 hence the error message you are getting.

You could try converting this format using HandBrake, this does support reading of the VP 09 format, and convert to h.264/AAC encoded video.

@magixbob

Thanks for the Mediainfo report. In addition to @johnebaker 's comment, there are two versions of the video on YT; the VP9 one and the H264 one:

The VP9 version is, I believe, a higher quality one than the H264 version, or at least smaller in size, as you can see. A conversion from VP9 to H264 with Handbrake is likely to reduce the quality more than using the H264 version in the first place, so my recommendation would be to just download and use the H264 version, which Magix will open without issue.

I use to love Movie Edit Pro but you have lost it.

No help, videos does not import anymore. I do everything the same, not even my homepage open properly. I have to do CTRL + f9 to manually arrange the interface. Massive disappointment.
