We are a small church of approximately 40 families and our organist of 60 years passed away recently.  We have no one to play our organ for Sunday services.  We have a good sound system with a decent mixer. I would like to explore the purchase of a computer, hire an organist for a day to play the hymns we use and record them into a small laptop computer which could be played back for our congregation to sing with.  Can you suggest equipment and programs that would be suitable for this?

Thanks

Murray

Any decent media player will play back your recorded audio files at the push of a button.  We may get deleted if we mention any non-MAGIX products here.

HOWEVER, I would HIGHLY recommend you hire a qualified sound recording engineer to record your organ for you.  To get a high quality recording, it takes much more than just setting up just any microphone depending on the sound reproducer (speaker(s), pipes, etc.) and the acoustic environment.  Recording direct would be preferred. You'd want to reduce or eliminate most, if not all, of the natural reverberation during recording.  Otherwise, when you play it back the added reverberation may turn it to "mud".

I would imagine there are already CD's available with high quality recordings of most church hymns.  But, to use them legally, you'd have to get permission from the copyright holder and perhaps pay fees to use them for public performance.
