MS 2013 Hardware Controller learn functions

dpaine wrote on 11/13/2012, 6:42 AM

Having 'upgraded' to MS 2013, I find that the midi controller customise/learn functions have changed, such that I seem unable to program my hardware controller (Novation Impulse 61) to operate any new (transort is what I want to program) functions. The fader functions work off the bat - maybe because I programmed them for MS 16, my previous version?

The Manual does not seem to relate fully to the Hardware Controller customise template options in 2013.

Has the learn function been removed or moved?

How do I program functions into the customise Hardware Controller fields?

Appreciate any help and advice before I give up and revert to MS16.

Thanks

I wish I could help you here. I am trying to decide which controller would work best or work at all with my Samplitude DAW. I am on a buget, so I'm looking at controllers like  Behringer, Korg and similar. Information on how and if these work with Samplitude is hard to come by. Behringer tecnical support is virtually nonexistant! I guess this is how they keep the costs down. The manuals on these devices are full of hype and technical jargon more than usable information for the "layman". I am a musician, not a "midi geekhead" so much of this is foriegn to me. Each mfg. has their own names for processes that I have trouble relating to. Like what is a "scene"? lol. If controllers work with presets for Cubase/Steinberg, are they the same as Samplitude? How do these systems "learn" the parameters of Samplitude, or do they? Does the sofware, if applicable, work with Samplitude. There's a lot of info regarding Protools because it is considered the "industry substandard" lol. I'm at the point where I'm considering using an X-box game controller with a joy stick to do what I want. lol. Up to this point, it seems that whatever works with Cubase is compatible with Samplitude also. At least I hope so. I have Cubase, but for me, it would be a step down from using my Samplitude. The VST's and plug-ins seem interchangable, so maybe I can assume what works for one is good for the other. Anyway, I'll soon purchase a controller and get back to this when I figure  out a bit more. Wish me luck. In the meantime, I'll just keep mousing around. Good luck, John

Don't know if this will help you, but here goes. I'm going to contact Korg about compatabilty issues with  Korg nanoKONTRL working with Samplitude MX.  So far nothing. I have recieved a letter from Behringer about their controllers and they were very helpful in giving complete set-up proceedures for connecting the BR2000 to my Samplitude MX DAW. Samplitude seems to be pre-set-up for Mackie HUI systems. The technicians at Magix don't seem to have a clue what I'm talking about when I asked them questions regarding "controllers". Oh well. I don't really think controllers are that complicated, my mouse and keyboard functions work as they're supposed to, but Korg seems to be weak in the software department. No driver is supplied with the device, you must download them online. The instructions are very  vague and only one page (in each language). Korg advertises their controllers work with most DAW's, but the instructions suggest that only half a dozen, out of hundreds, wll actually work. It's possible that I got a defective controller.  ??? Anyway, if my issues with Korg aren't resolved shortly, I'm opting for the berhinger. Seems to be a better unit anyway. More expensive, but looks like it will at least work.

Hi,

Thanks for the info onoffkey1.

Well in the end I got through to the tech guys and it seems that there is no longer a 'midi learn' function in MS 2013, which is a shame because it worked great in MS 16, my previous version.

So....the upshot is I got myself a refund for MS 2013 and have erverted to using MS 16, and can do pretty much all i want with the Novation Impulse. Sadly I can't get 'pot pick-up' to work, but we're talking a pretty great DAW here for very little money, so whose complaining.

The only feedback I can give is that the Novation s'ware that should help interface with the Cubases of this word does nothing with Samplitude - so the set-up re Mackie HUI or other templates is a bit hit and miss. If you're choosing a controller to work with Samplitude, don't expect everything to work right off the bat, or for MS versions after 16 to enable you to customise........

Good luck!
