Movie Studio Platinum 13.0 - Dialogs on Windows 10

First - If I am getting this right, Magix is now the owner of this product family - not Sony.

I have been using it for some time, even on Windows 10, but I've now moved to a new laptop (for storage and rendering speed purposes). This is also a Windows 10 64 bit machine.

What I am seeing is that the movie studio dialogs are all off - not quite right. The text doesn't fit well - plugins, filters and generators are very hard to interact with - and the actual plugin UI won't scale or change with a window resize.

Also I am finding that all the colour picker dialogs are broken - I get nothing at all. I use generated text overlays in my videos frequently - currently I can only use the default white.

Further information:

Movie Studio Version 13.0 Build 955 64 Bit.

Display resolution: 3840 * 2160 with windows set to 250% scaling. Video: Intel Graphics 530 + NVidia Quatro M1000M.

I've attempted the windows compatibility tool, and attempted to exclude movie studio from the scaling - which seemed to be ignored. I've tried in Windows 8 compatibility mode - which made no difference. It still seems to be ok on the old laptop - which is also Windows 10 - but with a much lower resolution display.

Hello. I'm no expert, but I have been using Movie Studio for about 7 years, and I used to do IT support, so I'm not a newbie either.

Two things I notice:

  • It's possible you have an installation problem.
  • If it's working OK on the other Win10 machine, it looks like it may be an issue with a video driver that might need to be updated on the machine in question. It could also be caused by the 250% scaling you have applied.
  • Build 955 is quite old. The current build is 987 (I know because I just purchased, downloaded, and installed it last night).

I would uninstall your build 955 (make sure you have your serial number written down first), then download and install the current build and see if anything changes. That would address the possibility of a bad installation, and also give you any fixes and enhancements that have been implemented over the past 15 months since 955 was released.

If that doesn't make a difference, turn off window scaling altogether and see if it fixes the problem. If it does, I would start a Support case to see if Magix can implement something that would allow for proper window scaling. Since obviously you can't leave scaling off completely, as trying to read anything at that resolution without scaling would require a magnifying glass.

Lastly, check and see if either Intel or NVidia has released updated drivers for your graphics hardware.

'Fraid that's all I can do for you. I hope it helps.
