Movie Edit Pro 16 Plus Problem: What happened to my video?

I recently purchased Movie Edit Pro 16 Plus, download edition, and updated to the most current version which supposedly fixes the problem in which some avi files don't display properly. I started a project with an avi video, which loaded properly. I cut the video into six section, and saved each individual clips as a subproject. Everything was fine, and then, all of sudden, the video won't play properly. It starts okay, but as soon as I move the marker forward, the video disappears. This problem now happens with every clip, as well as with the ORIGINAL IMPORTED VIDEO!

Help!! Anyone have any ideas or suggestions?

So I understand...

You have imported a AVI into the program, which played back with no problem, you then cut the AVI and exported each as (not sure what format you exported), but now each file pays out then goes black...

To me, that is a codec issue.

I have the same program as you do, and I have only had one issue like yours, and it has happened with AVCHD video format. It ends up correcting itself when I load another video into the project and I haven't figured it out. I thought it was only with AVCHD, but if your saying AVI too, and I am not sure at this point.

What happens in my case is that I will load a video and it comes in blank, the audio is there, but the video is black for the duration of the video. If I bring in another video, they both load, and are visible. I was thinking it had something to do with the complex nature of the AVCHD, where the codec did not complete its reading of the file, so the next AVCHD file I load complete the task.

What format are you exporting these clips into, and if you were to view these clips outside of the MAGIX software, do they play correctly? Say if you were to use them in Windows Media Player...

I would recommend re-installing the software was well as any codecs you can. AVI files are pretty universal, but there are some codecs out there that are less than optimal. For my AVI projects I am using a Intel IYUV codec. It is not the fastest render but I like the quality of it.

I just tested a few AVI clips, these are working fine for me, so I think it is something unique to your system. You might want to contact support if nothing I stated here helps.

Hi John,

Thanks for your comments. The original video was of one of my guitar students, singing 8 different songs. I imported the video as an AVI, then cut it into 8 separate objects. Then, resaved the project 8 times with different names, each time deleting 7 of the objects, and keeping one song. Then I would UNDO, and resave, keeping a different tune. When I wanted to work on a tune, I loaded the project specific to that tune. It worked fine until one day the video disappeared, as I described. I think you are right, that it's likely a codec problem, but I couldn't seem to fix it until I did a System Restore, back to the day before the problem started. Now it works again.

I had also downloaded and installed all of the free libraries, eg effects, tools, styles, etc. After the Sytem Restore I reinstalled the styles and effects, but not the plug-ins. Somehow I suspect that the proAdd plug in, which require a Direct X install, may have caused the problem. In any case, it seems to be okay now, and hopefully the problem won't recur.
