Movie Edit Pro 16 plus hangs when importing DV video

I am trying to import an AVI file. The programme starts the camcorder and records for about 20 minutes and then just hangs. It has not actually crashed. The camcorder continues to play and when it reaches the end of the tape (and stops) Magix wakes up again but it has only recorded up to the point it hung.

Any ideas? There are no warning messages, plenty of memory and disk space.

What is your operating system?

What is the camera manufacture and model?

How are you connected USB, FireWire?

I was wondering if maybe there is a file size limitation wall it is hitting, usually this would be  truncated to a new file, but perhaps there is a hang there...

Is there a way you can capture multiple secession, just so you can get the material in, so you can edit? Such as two 10 minutes sessions or three 7 minute sessions. You could then combine them later into the project for export.

The reason I ask is I am wondering if this is related to a amount of time/size or if it is related to the recorded material in that certain spot.

I can record in chunks but it takes time. My concern is to get my back log of tapes onto the PC as quickly as possible before the equipment fails or technology changes. I have a newer HD camera that I use for all new recordings.

I don't think it is a problem with the tape, more like memory or cache clogging up?

I'm not sure but this may be caused by the automatic save facility. I have switched this off and since have had few problems. I can usually get to the end of a 90 minute recording and no frames dropped at all and no crashes.

USUALLY.

Have you also checked to see if there are any additional application running in the background that might cause further resources to be taken away?

I have noticed a large improvement on my system after shutting down these startup programs.
