Movie Edit PRo 15 Trial - widscreen question

I set the project to 16:9, but most of the images I have are 3:2 or 4:3.  Can not figure out how to use the zoom or crop to 16:9.  I can see this app will have a huge learning curve.

Can't get moviemaker to do anything with just images.

This is what I do for all the 4:3 content I want to make 16:9.  drag the item onto the timeline, and click on it to select it.  click the EFFECTS tab on the top-right, and under Movement Effects, select "Section/Zoom".  Where you see the phrase "keep proportions". click on it and select 16:9 landscape from the drop-down menu.  You will see the selection box in the preview changes to reflect a wide screen zoom.  Move the box (just click and drag the middle of the selection box) to wherever you want to zoom to.  Play it back to preview and it should look like a widescreen movie!

You can also do this by using "size/position" instead of the zoom, and where it says "width" type in the width you've chosen for your project.  ie if your project is 1280x720 then type in 1280.  the height will adjust automatically.  It will be taller than your screen.  Click "CENTER" and it will center on your screen and you will have a widescreen version that is zoomed into the center of your clip vertically.

If you'd like to see some of this in action, check out my "How to make Videos Fly" video on MindPower:

It shows some of what I've talked about here.

Seems like a lot of trouble when I'm working with 200 or 300 images.  There should be a default way to handle imported images that don't fit the project aspect ratio.

Also need help with presets like the Collages.  I can't figure out how it the different ones select images.  For example, the photo table.  I select four images that are on the timeline and drop the preset on the first one.  That seems logical to me, but doesn't work.
