MMM18 - Importing pre created Midi files

hi all

I am just about to dive into the MMM world and have a couple of questions before i do. I play in a band that use backing tracks (Drums/Bass etc). currently I use my roland fantom as a sequencer to upload the files (separate 16 tracks) and then use the boards voices and software to edit the instruments/transpose the key of the song and then record out to mini disc.

Can i do this in MMM, import midi files from the net and if so how easy is it. Note i have never used Pc based music software before.

thanks in advance

k

Importing a MIDI file is simple.  If I recall, you simply import it to a track through the File Manager just like any audio file.

HOWEVER...MMM can only import/export Type 0 MIDI files.  That means, if you import a Type 1 (multi-channel) MIDI file, any and all multi-channel information will be consolidated into one MIDI file, as far as I know.

It's not that the channel information is not there - it's just that in a Type 0 file, the channel information is basically ignored. This makes assigning separate instruments next to impossible.  In the tutorial section, I do describe a method of separating MIDI channels in MMM, but it is very tedious.

If your MIDI files contain only one instrument, there should be no problem.  You can assign an individual instrument and MIDI channel to it.  Just be sure to import each MIDI file to a separate track in the arranger.

You can then edit any MIDI file in the Vita MIDI Editor and export it using Vita, if desired.

thanks for the quick response, albeit a disappointing one, i may have to continue my search for a suitable platform for my simple needs (I was drawn somewhat by the brights lights and capabilities of MMM....like buying a ferrari for my first car without passing my test yet!).
