midi keyboard output

martin-smith wrote on 6/14/2022, 10:44 AM

i have a keyboard with built in speakers. to disable them you must plug in the headphones and i have done so.

i have the proper driver installed and the instrument does great without the headphones plugged.

trying to record with only my studio monitors is problematic because i see the meter moving but the audio is not there

keyboard support says there is a setting that needs to change in the DAW

thoughts?

the keyboard is connected with midi /usb cable. i am using the organ that is in the keyboard and not a vst.

yamaha psr e 463.

i have the proper driver downloaded and installed.

i have recorded with the speakers operating and the recording goes fine

but trying to mute the speakers with headphone jack brings everything to a halt.

martin-smith wrote on 6/14/2022, 2:58 PM

unfortunately that is not my model.

yamaha tech support said that a dummy in the headphone jack was the way to disable the internal speakers.

in acid under that configuration i see the meter move as the organ is played but i cannot hear it as i record

Assuming you are on Windows 10 or 11 - check in Windows settings, Privacy & Security, App permissions, Microphone that the Let desktop apps access your microphone option is turned on. This item is poorly named as it affects all audio coming into the PC.

can you have input on one device and have playback thru another?

PATIENT-X wrote on 6/15/2022, 4:47 PM

@martin-smith

Hi

Have you tried to pass the audio signal from keyboard to Pc by using the function button and use category button till you get to "Kbdout" function, make sure it's switched to off to send audio messages only to Pc?

Set function to "local" to transmit sounds.

If you have, please ignore.......

Have you got the the input monitoring on?

Have you inserted a input bus for in the mixer?

what happens if you have speaker volume down ?

Are you trying to use the keyboard just as a master keyboard to play the vst etc .?

Is your yamaha connected via usb to the pc or midi in and out via a usb interface /cable that connected to pc?

martin-smith wrote on 6/15/2022, 5:57 PM

input monitoring does not seem to make a difference

havent inserted an input bus / dont know how exactly?

speaker volume all the way down on the keyboard still leaves me with a meter registering sound in the daw

i want to hear the output of the keyboard thru my monitors inside the daw

im connected using usb cable from keyboard to pc

martin-smith wrote on 6/16/2022, 5:28 PM

is it possible to have the input device be the yamaha steinberg and the out put be the focusrite?
