Midi import not working in Music Maker 17 Silver

Hello. I have recently installed two versions of Music maker 17. Firstly Music Maker 17 Silver (the free version) and secondly Music Maker 17 Premium Download Version (free trial - limited period).

Both versions are supposed to be able to import and edit midi files. The limited period free trial version imports midi perfectly but the Silver version is unable to recognise the file type. Clicking on a midi file in the MMM file manager just gives the error message that it cannot recognise the file type. I've looked in the preferences and everything seems to be correctly set up. There must be something I'm not seeing.

Does anyone know what's causing the problem?

Where did you get this silver edition? I haven't heard of it, and I didn't see it on the MAGIX website.  I do have the Music Maker 17 Premium, all the MIDI files work fine with it as-far-as I can determine.

@john-auvil:

The silver edition is free on the cover disc of the most recent issue (#192) of  PC Advisor magazine ( http://www.pcadvisor.co.uk/ ). It is supposed to have midi functions but they don't show up. I'm wondering if the software programmers removed the midi functions of the silver edition but forgot to remove mention of midi from the helpfile documentation?

More than likely I would say that is what the issue is... I have Music Maker 17 Premium, and it has the MIDI portion of the software.

I am not sure maybe there are license issues with the MIDI portion that they cannot offer as a 'Free' edition or perhaps this is a marketing tool to get users to buy into the software. If you go to the MAGIX website, you should be able to download the trial version; there you can see the MIDI. At least that’s how I believe I initially evaluated it.
