i would like to add the title of the jpg image to each photo in the slideshow. This is only for temporary purposes so I can show the slideshow to someone else and they can quickly tell me you need to make a change on this photo in the slide show. Anyway to insert the filename easily using a metadata insert?

AFAIK there is no way to do this.

However if you are showing the slideshow from within Photostory then you can switch to Timeline mode then the image files names are displayed at the top of the individual objects as shown below -

If you are exporting the slideshow and sending it to the 3rd party then you will have to manually add titles for each image.
