The m4v, mkv, mov and wmv files are container files and can have many different video and audio codecs inside them.
Rescue Your Video Tapes (RYVT) only supports the following video codec formats:
h.264 / AVC (Advanced Video Coding), MPEG-1 (MPEG/MPG), MPEG-2, MPEG-4 and Windows Media Video*
* Note: The most common WMV codec is Windows Media Video 9, Windows Media Video Screen or Windows Media Video Image cannot be imported
Download and install MediaInfo and analyse the videos you are trying to import.
Using the Tree view of MediaInfo in the video section on the line that starts Format and/or Codec ID/Info: you do not see one of the codec formats listed above RYVT cannot import them.
