Magix Video Pro X16 project stuck

matti-heikkil wrote on 11/11/2024, 9:35 AM

Hi,

I have a problem with Magix Video Pro X 16 (loaded 26 October 2024), which got stuck unexpectedly while I was working with quite an ordinary small video project. To get out of the project or open other projects saved I had to shut down the device and turn off the power. After restarting Magix the same situation returned, but now the playback marker started from the beginning and only continued for a while, until stopped. However, the first scene remained on the program monitor, and no scene changed despite the playback marker being moved.

The problem only applies to this project. Even so, I wouldn´t want to give up the work I`m doing. Would it be possible to solve the problem somehow willingly so that I could continue the work?

Could somebody give me tips/guess what would be the reason for this kind of problem and how to fix it?

My configuration: Window 11 23H2 X64, updated 10.10.2024

Processor: AMD A10-6700 APU with Radeon™ HD Graphics 3.70 GHz

Hi

Assuming there is not a second graphics card installed in the computer, the issue with hanging may be a result of the A10-6700 integrated graphics, the HD8670D, being below the minimum specification for Video Pro X 16 (VPX 16) which requires DirectX 12 for full functionality.

Check in VPX 16 Program settings, Device options tab, the Video mode settings Import, Processing and Export are set to CPU.

Hello Matti,

Just an addition to the answer given by @johnebaker.

As far as I can tell, your computer dates from 2013 (11 years old), on which Windows 11 cannot be installed by default as far as I know. You have force-installed Windows 11 on it, is this correct?

Best wishes

Rob

Hello Rob,

Sorry for the mess! Old age you know.

My computer is from 2021 and no force installation was needed.

After getting to know the matter better, I noticed that also the information about the processor was incorrect. The right one is the AMD Ryzen 7 4700G with Radeon Graphics 3.60GHz. If I understand correctly, this should meet the minimum requirements for VPX 16, but the recommendation is to use graphics card AMD Radeon RX470 or higher with 4 GB. Am I right that the latter is a separate graphics card that needs to be installed in the computer?

To return to the problem, viz getting stuck. I have used earlier versions of Magix (X14, x15) for much heavier videos and have not encountered a similar problem before.

On the other hand, it has been established that AMD`s integrated Vega 8 is sufficient for basic use and lighter editing. That was exactly the question when the problem now appeared.

As you may have noticed, I am a little confused.

Regards

Matti

Hi

Thanks for the computer spec update.

. . . . If I understand correctly, this should meet the minimum requirements for VPX 16, but the recommendation is to use graphics card AMD Radeon RX470 . . . .

The GPU in the 7 4700G, the RX Vega 8, performance wise, is well below that of the recommended minimum RX470, a separate graphics card, and IMHO is likely to struggle with anything more than very light video projects, as you have established, possibly to the point where the system may lock up due to heat generation.

If possible, I would suggest getting a better, separate, graphics card that betters the minimum spec.

There are not many users here who use AMD graphics cards so advice on which model would be limited, however I would suggest, if you want to stay with AMD then a graphics card that is equivalent to the Nvidia RTX 2060 or better.

@matti-heikkil if I were going to look at the used AMD market, I'd opt for a R X580X. It gives you 8GB of video ram and is faster than the 570 and 470 models which come with 4GB ram.

Thanks guys, for the good information that clarifies the matter for me. I will continue on this basis.
