magix video deluxe 17

serra.helena wrote on 3/5/2020, 5:52 AM

Hello,

I am trying to edit a new vídeo and the program is not responding. It closes
without any intervention. I did repair it after trying to re-instal and restart
and the software response is the same, i.e. it shuts down.
It is the magix video deluxe 17 and it has been working fine untill now...
It should be updated because I have just repaired it.
What now? This is very urgent because I have to edit a lot of clips this week.
Thank you in advance

Welcome to the Magix forums.

First, you say you have version 17 of VDL or MEP as it is better known to English speakers and that it should be updated because I have repaired it. Unfortunately, that may NOT be the case. And, are you aware the current latest version is 19?

However, I strongly suspect the basic reason for the problems you are seeing is because you uninstalled and reinstalled and then repaired it! Assuming you used the built-in Uninstaller to remove the original installation, there are a number of files which that process does not remove because the Uninstaller does not know they exist! It is quite possible that one of those "unknown" files has become somehow corrupt and that is the most likely root cause of your difficulties.

So, please read and follow carefully, step by step, the instructions in this tutorial to ensure you completely remove everything from the old install before you attempt to reinstall.

Please let us know how you get on!

Hi

. . . . magix video deluxe 17 . . . .

Which version of Video Deluxe do you mean by Video Deluxe 17

  1. Video Deluxe 17 released in 2010 ?

  2. Video Deluxe 2017 - version 16.0.x.x ?

  3. Video Deluxe 2018 version 17.0.x.x ?

The full version number available under Help, About will help.

We also need to know more about your computer and Windows version - see this topic for the information required.

@serra.helena

Hi

VDL 17 v10.0.6.12 is not compatible with Windows 10 - it will run however there may be issues due to incompatibility.

Did the program start crashing after the recent Windows update?

Try renaming or deleting the Videodeluxe.ini file which is in the following location:

C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\MAGIX\program version

then try starting VDL 17- note this will reset any customisations you have made to the programs settings

If this does not work then, IMHO, it is time to upgrade to a newer version.

Do note while VDL 2020 can open VDL 17 projects you may get some error messages where special effects or transition have been used and are now different or unavailable.

Hi,

Thank you for your help.

I did what you sugested and it continues to shut down.

The upgrade you suggest means that I will have to buy another sofware? It means I have to spend money on the fact that you cannot follow the updates for windows?

Thank you very much!

Helena

@serra.helena

Hi Helena

VDL 17 is nearly 10 years old and went out of support about 8 years ago. The current version of VDL (2020) is 19.0.x.x which is 9 generations later than VDL 17 10.0.x.x

Windows 10 is a very different operating system, under the hood, from Windows 7 when the software was released and the later releases of it have rendered a lot of older programs inoperative or partially functioning.

This does mean, unfortunately, that you do have to buy a later version of the program which will run on Windows 10 now and in the future - well until Microsoft decide to make a radical change to Windows again as they did with 10.
