Video Pro X6

Can anyone advise of their personal experience of advantages and disadvantages with respect to Mep 2014, 2013 etc.

I am particularily interested in slowing video way down and having the ability from a paused video to move finely and smoothly back and forward? MEP 2013 can do quite well at this but refinements / improvements would be great.

Any advice would be much appreciated, thanks.

Do you have a 64 bit version of Windows - if not then you cannot run VPX6 - it is 64 bit only.

Hi.

As John says, the new VPX6 is 64 bit only.  However, if what you want is the ability to slow down and speed up playback, can I suggest you take a look at ProDAD ReSpeedr?  Like many ProDAD programs it is not immediatley obvious how to use it (!) and it does have to operate in standalone mode (i.e. it is not a plug-in for any video editor), but its abilities in the area of "adjusting" playback speed over quite a wide range is really pretty good, IMO.

I'm running Windows 7  on an Asus intel mB with an I7 - 3770 processor and 16GB of DDR RAM.

I also like Waterfox 64 bit web browser ( FireFox 64 bit)

So what are your thoughts on X6 ?

I like the speedr software and at the moment it was discounted so purchased it as a stand alone software.

It's a pity it doesn't support sound too.

Can you suggest if it is possible to sync sound and video using MEP 2013 /14 to it in any way.

You mentioned plugins in your post., does MEP software support plugs in of any kind?

If so what's worth considering and how do you apply them?

Hi Whalebat

MEP supports a lot of the plugins for VirtualDub (vdf plugins) here is a source of many that I have been testing - the only ones which do not work AFAICS are those that try to resize the project or object on the timeline - the most useful I have found are:

   Histogram Equalize
   RGB Adjustment
   Unsharp Mask
   Hue/Saturation/Intensity
   MSharpen

Hey Whalebat,

There are a number of plug-ins that are compatible with MEP and VPX6. Check out NewBlueFX, Pixelan, and ProDad for the lion's share of plug-ins. Digieffects has limited plug-ins for Magix (Phenomena), and oddly enough their "Damage" plug in is being offered (limited time) by Magix for Photostory 14 Deluxe...so I wonder if that range of Digieffects plug-ins offered will expand to MEP and VP. And Vasco de Gama also offers their travel route plug in for Magix. Others have already pointed out the VirtualDub plugs...and that includes the Neat Video noise reduction plug in...

VPX6 has support for VST audio plug ins (maybe this exists in MEP too?, but I am not sure) and there are a wide range of companies that offer VST plug-ins.

 

But be cautious, X6 is 64 bit only now...and so there is going to be a shakeout period (e.g. Pixelan does not have Magix 64 bit compatible versions at the time of this note, and Vasco de Gama's version 8 is the only 64bit version--previous versions were 32bit only). So whereever possible download and test a trial version before buying.

Magix's plug-in support does not seem consistent, you find little to no mention of what plug ins are available on the website...and remember that what works with one version of MEP/VP may not work with a later version of their NLE software. You could make a substantial investment in plug-ins only to have them 'stranded' if support is removed. Anyway, and this is sad, but I've probably missed some plugins, but again this comes back to Magix lack of interest in promoting plugin compability...feels like you need to be sherlock holmes to find them all...
