Thanks Ray for your reply, checked the old emails to see if there are any links to Mercalli V2, no luck. if one has paid for this in previous programmes it should be standard in future programmes. Just have to live with it and all the other changes. Also Magix seems to no have not updated their tutorials for many years, example, how to use Prodad vitascene etc, the tutorials are outdated.

Hi Fergie.

I too have checked all my earlier emails as I know I also had Mercalli V2 and can confirm it seems that there was no separate download and was installed as a part of MEP 2019 and possibly other versions. However this changed when I upgraded to MEP 2022 when proDAD Mercalli V5 Suite was offered as a third party plugin, V2 was removed. Whether this would have happened if I had not got the V5 or not I have no idea but assume that it would have been removed.

This is the one problem with upgrades as some plugins and effects are sometimes removed. Sometimes perhaps through technical reasons such as no longer being compatible with operating systems or not supporting various increases in resolutions available. Even licencing agreements with the providing supplier of the effects such as proDAD.

Unfortunately this is a part of most program developers End User Licence Agreements including the right to withdraw the complete program from use. That allows them to keep the programs relevant to currently supported operating systems and the world we live in.

My only suggestion would be is look at the website on a regular basis (every couple of months) to see what special offers come up as Mercalli V5 has appeared on more than one occasion but again read the small print for terms and conditions as a lot of the offers now come with limited life spans of one to two years.

For these editing solutions please always use the  32bit Version of the Mercalli V2 Plugins because these NLEs are 32bit Versions, tough they´re in use on Windows 7 64 Bit systems.

That was sort of useful and unhelpful at the same time 😉 but made me look at the ProDAD site more carefully as I think none of us normally bother.

Why? Because of your link that sent me to this.

Which is what you correctly quoted but seems to contradict Magix who state this over two pages.

Which to be frank I feel doesn't answer the question of whether MMS and VPX are fully 64 bit or not. Just that they could be run on Windows 11 at the time that information was put on the website.

However because the latest bundled version (If you have one) seems to be Mercalli V5 (or maybe V6 if I missed a special offer) so I went back to the ProDAD site to look for further information if there was any. I found this.

Which at least answers Fergie's question. Magix of course never mentions these points on their website but should be a reminder to everyone upgrading to check the relevant third party sites and Magix own site for all terms and conditions if one is relying on additional effects. The other option of course is to buy the relevant fx plugin outright and hope it continues to work within new versions of the Magix programs.

One thing I can confirm is the Mercalli V5 used within a project that used the V2 version still seems to hold and apply the settings used with V2. At least it has on the one project I used it extensively on.

Anyone looking at this and also running any Vegas products should also have a look around at the various plugin problems that could occur.

I was just thinking about this when I saw this post. The reason I continue to the older Magix Movie Edit 2016 and VPX12 is that the Mercalli V2 plugin is available in both. Even though I have Movie Studio 2024 I find that I need a stabilizer a couple of times per video and the Vegas one just doesn't work as well. It would be terrific if the Mercalli plugin could be migrated from older versions.

There was a time when Magix would offer different bundles of third party plugin effects at various intervals during that product's lifespan. I got Mercalli V5 as a free third party plugin with limited two year life span with MMS 2024 during one of those offers.

However, that marketing model now seems to have changed and no longer happens. Mercalli V6 is instead now available from Magix but only as part of Magix Movie Studio Ultimate which is more expensive an option than obtaining it the old way, but comes bundled with more third party effects that also have limited life spans that are roughly equal to the expected supported product lifespan of MMS 2025.

The alternative if it that important to have, would be to buy the full version from ProDad. Various options are available.

Mercalli v2 was released in 2012, 2yrs before MEP 2015 went 64 bit and is not compatible with the newer versions of MEP/MMS.

The information you are linking to is out of date ie :

The programs referenced are 12 - 14 years old and are all 32 bit, and should not to be used as a reference when referring to MEP/MMS/VPX 64 bit programs.

Mercalli v4 came with MEP 2016 and, IIRC, was 64 bit, v5 and v6, are definitely 64 bit.

Thanks for your message. Magix has an upgrade special to Movie Studio Ultimate 2025 for $89.99 and includes proDAD Mercalli V6 with what appears to be no end date unlike proDAD HIDE V1 (1-year license). I just upgraded to 2024 so I will have to weigh the upgrade cost vs just using the older versions. It seems like a pretty good deal for all the extra plugins.

Thanks for that, unfortunately I did an upgrade to movie studio 2024, I'll wait a few months for 2025. Prodad should come with every version anyway

@terrerad @fergie  Mercalli V6 isn't a plugin just to let you know, it's a standalone program. unless they've changed something.

I have V5 as a plugin shown in my reply earlier. There are plugin versions to about five different programs.

I think but I'm not sure that the Windows version still acts as a plugin but is not restricted to one program developer, hence the higher price.

Mercalli Plugins and SALs are separate programs.

Indeed, IIRC it came in a MMS 2023 "special deal" last year.
