Magix Movie edit pro premium 2022 crash problem

Wesley-Clepper wrote on 5/23/2022, 8:13 PM

Hi Guys I need your help. I just purchased and downloaded Magix Movie Edit pro Premium 2022 a few days ago. It is constantly freezing. It not even usable. Ive had many other MEP programs in the past. The best one I used was MEP 2013 and never had a seconds problem. My computer is up to date with all the windows updates and it meets all the criteria for MEP 2022 required for this program. I have 1060 graphics card that is new as well. My MEP2022 it also up to date and no updates are available. I have used Magix video edit programs since 2008 and had many MEP movie edit pro programs and never had this kind problem to this degree. I'm at my ropes end. What can I do? I need this for business advertising.

HELP!

@Wesley-Clepper

Hi Wesley and welcome to the user to user forums.

Thank you for supplying some of your computer specs in detail but we really need all the computer specs in as much detail as possible if we are going to try to figure out what is going wrong and possibly come up with a solution.

Freezing can occur for several reasons.

Not enough space on the C: drive for the program to create temp swap files as everything is calculated in real time. We would recommend at least 10GB of free space on the c: drive.

C: drive or project drive not fast enough in some situations, file type can be dependent.

Used external drives connected via a hub.

CPU is an older model with an inboard GPU that is no longer currently supported. (whether this is selected in the options panel or not, MEP will still try to use it in some instances)

Third party effect in use that has higher running specification needs than the base program.

Video or audio clips that either do not fully comply with supported file formats within MEP.

Not enough physical ram. Increasing virtual ram has the opposite effect of helping and slows down or can stop the program running.

Graphics drivers are not up to date.

Those are just a few reasons off of the top of my head. It could be something else.

Ray.

There should be no reason for MEP to suddenly start carrying on like a pork chop just because you've gone from (I assume) MEP2021 to 2022. You've even got a graphics card that surpasses the "requirements". Others have had the same sort of drama when updating to 2022.

First thing to try is to change the processing settings.

Go to File>Settings>Program...

On the Device Options tab, change the three Hardware Acceleration dropdowns to CPU and see how your system performs.

Ideally, best "performance" ie smooth timeline playback, quick exports will be using your 1060, but you may need to experiment with various combinations.

Other issues may be the drivers for your 1060. I don't have one but NVidia, I believe, have a type of update service. Others will point you in the right direction there.

All my forum comments are based on or refer to my System 1.

My struggle is over! I built my (now) system 2 in 2011 when DV was king and MPEG 2 was just coming onto the scene and I needed a more powerful system to cope. Since then we've advanced to MP4 and to bigger and bigger resolutions. I was really suffering, not so much in editing (with proxies) but in encoding, which just took ages. A video, with Neat Video noise reduction applied, would encode at 12% of film speed. My new system 1 does the same job at 160% of film speed. Marvellous. I'm keeping my old system as a capture station for analogue video tapes and DV.

Well, I downloaded the 1060 graphics card driver link that you posted above and said for me to do. I also adjusted the Hardware acceleration and went between CPU and my Graphics card setting. So far the MEP 2022 Premium is working a little better. It seems a little sluggish every once in a while but it DID NOT freeze up as of yet. I did build a 20 second video with no problem. Time will tell as my videos get longer like 2-3 minutes. Thank you for posting the driver link. I hope the MEP 2022 will continue to work for me with no problems. If not I will report back to you. Thank you so much for helping me!

Thanks again

@Wesley-Clepper

Hi Wesley.

Now you have updated the video graphics driver (and do in future keep that driver up to date) it should be possible to set all the settings to use the 1060 card. If at that point the program freezes again you need to disable the Intel graphics chip in the bios as that is no longer supported within the program. That should result in the program responding much better. The CPU itself is getting on a bit and in some situations may struggle and you may find yourself reliant more on using proxy files than you did in the past for a smooth playback.

If you use more than one monitor and have one plugged into the Intel graphics port on the motherboard and the other into one of the nvidia cards ports ,try plugging both monitors into the nvidia cards graphics ports and that may disable the Intel GPU without having to go into the bios. You may have to get another lead type if the port left on the nvidia card is not the same as used on the motherboards graphics port. (It may not disable the GPU, but worth a try.)

One way to see if the Intel GPU is being used at all is to open Task manager (Ctrl + Alt + Delete) and the Intel GPU should show up with some small amount of activity while the program is running.

Hi can someone please tell me if Magix Premium pro 2022 was it a cd installation? or a digital download, as I have been having a lot of trouble with mine and want to install it on another pc to see if issues are still there. I can[t remember how I purchased this one, if it is a digital download can I still re-install it on my other pc?

@Tina-Baker

You should really have created a new thread with your question since it is a very different one to that in the first post!

However, all recent versions of Magix products, with the possible exception of Rescue Your Video Tapes, have been digital downloads.

Go to your Magix account, log in, go to My products and find the listing for your software. There will be a link to the installer, along with the needed serial key. You should also check, under "Show more details", how many current activations are registered to your account - you can have a maximum of 2. If both are currently in use you will need to deactivate one of them in order to activate any new installation on your other PC.
