Hi,

No need to worry. The program is not obsolete and it's not a technical problem per se. You just need to be aware of the fact that miniDV cameras need to be captured via the FireWire/IEEE 1394 interface - not USB. FireWire is the standard for connecting, controlling and capturing miniDV cameras and always has been. USB is probably just more of an additional and possibly proprietary solution on that camera. Just get a suitable FireWire/DV cable and find the DV output on your camera. Connect this to the FireWire input on your computer. If your computer really isn't equipped with any FireWire controller yet, this can easily be added as an inexpensive plug-in card. Once you got that in your system, you will also be able to connect and capture your DV camera in the Magix video software.

I hope this helps.
