Magic photostory DOES NOT support Asian Fonts!!

ccaichen wrote on 8/19/2015, 12:11 PM

I am so upset that the Magic photostory 2015 version I purchased last month, COULD NOT support Chinese fonts. The main reason I purchased this software is to make slideshows for my travel photos. Chinese titles and explanations are my major reason, But when I typed the Chinese fonts into the Title bar, it turns into some funny characters.

Magix photostory can't support Chinese fonts or any asian fonts, why it DiD NOT indicate this in the advertisement? I was cheated! I am so upsad!!!!

Hi

. . . . why it DiD NOT indicate this in the advertisement? I was cheated! . . . . .

Did you ask before purchase or try the trial version first ?

There are many languages which are not supported by Photostory and other Magix products.

For unsupported languages a work around is to use images with the correct pictograms / characters, however, depending on the program you use to create these images, your Windows will also have to support the required language and be set so you can switch languages.

Very few people will buy the English version of a product like PhotoStory with the express intention of using asian fonts. What you are basically saying is that a software maker should indicate everything that the program doesn't do, which would be an endless list. Magix is one of the better software makers on the market in that you can download and use a trial version for 30 days. Since your use is quite unusual, you should have at least taken advantage of this, and tried it out before buying.

In any event, I believe that Magix has a 30 day return policy if you bought the program on line from Magix. If you did, then ask for a refund.

There is a workaround and it is probably the same for other similar products. Type your text into a graphics program in Chinese, if you can find one that accepts the font. Use a fairly large font size. Export it as a transparent png file and import it onto a higher numbered track in PhotoStory. Using Effects, Movement Effects, Size and position, adjust you imported text image as required.

Good luck in finding a suitable product.

Many softwares made after 2010 support google language options. Even in google search, we can type Chinese fonts to make google search. Magic photostory version 2015, even does not support Asian fonts. That's too bad.

Hi

Please do not repost or comment on the same question - keep all replies on this topic in the same thread.

From your duplicate post:

Many softwares made after 2010, support Asian languages. Like microsoft office. I can even type Chinese to make google search. That's the reason when I decided to purchase Magix photostory Deluxe 2015 version, I believe it will support Asian fonts. But when I tried, what I typed in the Title bar, turned into some funny characters. I choose the Asian fonts type, like Mingliu, first, then input the Chinese, still, what I typed did not show up in the title bar, then I switched back to English, it worked well.

It is not realistic to expect an English version of any program to support Asian fonts.

.. . . I choose the Asian fonts type, like Mingliu, first, then input the Chinese still, what I typed did not show up in the title bar  . . . . .

That is correct MingLiu is a font, ie a style of character.

Characters you see on a computer are represented by code numbers in what is called a 'Character map' for the font you use.

If there is no corresponding code number, for the Chinese character you entered, in the font character map, then it will display nothing.

We all may be mistaken and there may have been (and still be) a bug in PhotoStory. There were recent updates to Movie Edit Pro 2015 and Video Pro X6 in which the following bug was fixed:

-Bug fix: Problems with title objects containing Chinese or Japanese characters

So, do an update to the latest patch if there is one available to see if this is the case. Please let us know either way.
