Latest update to 15.0.3.154 loss of preview

gmlotkow wrote on 4/28/2017, 3:45 PM

Been using Magix for years. Today's update left me without a function. I usually have two video tracks on the timeline, sync'd, then trim the lower one to transition, when I scroll the trimed video, by using the left handle, it no longer updates, or show the position in the preview window.

Is there some settings I should change?

Another thing, the CPU: icon in the lower left corner of the app window, now never stops working, never had that happen before, my system does not feel or seem any slower, but opening the task manager window show my CPU cooking.

Hi Greg,

VPX 15.0.3.154

I don't get the same things that you mention. I did notice that I had to double-click on the video clip to get it to show up the first time in the source monitor.

Playback is the only thing that gives me info in the CPU box lower left and playing back something similar to what you have was fairly normal - max of about 24%.

Scrubbing and trimming by dragging with the left handle

  • no effect in the lower left CPU box
  • scrubbing would get just over 50% in Task Manager
  • trimming by dragging back and forth the left handle could climb to 95% in the Task Manager.
  • the video changes in the Preview monitor during trimming by dragging.

I have 16GB RAM, W10, nothing fancy like you. I have about 8s on the timeline; I did not try with longer clips.

Nice- now I find it's intermittent, seemed to revert back to initial post, in the middle of a same project edit.

Hi

Sounds like you had "Automatically create Proxy files on import" ticked in Program settings. Maybe make sure you delete all the proxies (.mxv's) it created in a folder called "Perf bounce" I think it is. Also try setting "Reset Program Settings to default" after applying patches.

This is messed up. I took the update in the middle of editing a project. My projects usually take me a few days to edit, and it looks like the project got corrupt. Starting a new project with the same material, the VPX behaves correctly. Go figure.

Hi

. . . . I took the update in the middle of editing a project. . . . .

If the project was loaded at the time you updated, the update tries to shut down the program however it should just sit there waiting for the project to be closed - if there was a forced close then the project will be left in an open state and not load correctly the next time.

Sometimes it is possible to beat the updater and start loading a project while it is looking for available updates

To avoid odd things happening to projects I update when I have an empty timeline / project or click the Update later button if the updater window pops up mid edit.

Hi,

I have had a couple of projects go wacky on me recently, but I could still open the project. In most cases, I copied everything and pasted into a new movie, X'd the old movie, and was able to continue on, nervously. Otherwise, I used a backup.

The key that lets me know that there are problems is an echo of the playback marker when I scrub across the timeline.

Everything was going well, I guess it was just a corrupt project file.

Now today, I get another "major program update", so I initially said cancel, then open a new project, quit, started again, then took the update, we'll see what happens. Actually, this has been running fine, great software, lets keep it that way.
