Large file shuts down program when loaded into timeline

lynns wrote on 7/21/2014, 8:42 PM

I’m working on a wedding ceremony. I have two out of three views loaded into their place on the timeline before I start editing the 3-point view recorded ceremony. The first two were filmed on DSLRs. So they’re split up into 12 minute segments. So that’s how I got those loaded on without any issues. The whole ceremony is only 33 minutes long. It is in high definition. But I know Magix Video Pro x 5 IS equipped to handle more than that! (At least it should, right?)
So my one simple question comes down to this: How do I import the footage from the media pool without apparently overloading the Magix system by dragging and dropping the file into the timeline?

Thank you so much! This is a time sensitive project. Any suggestions are much appreciated as usual.

Hi

We need more information - your computer specification, Windows version and the video format / resolution you are trying to load.

I would suspect that it is not VPX that is being overloaded but your computer - causes are usually

   -  insufficient memory

   -  insufficient free hard drive space

   - another program is hogging computer resources - this could be antivirus software.

My apologies concerning the insufficient information.  I have:
Windows 8.1 64 Bit, 911 GB of memory, and currently only 26 GB free are left of the 911 GB.
I’m trying to load a AVCHD Video (.MTS) and the resolution is 1280x720

Hi

. . . . 911 GB of memory, and currently only 26 GB free . . . .

That is the hard drive size and it looks rather full - IMHO you do not have enough free space for editting HD (AVCHD) video.

How much memory (RAM) does the computer have?

Is this a PC or a laptop?

If a PC then I would recommend having a 1TB or 2TB second hard drive fitted and transfer all your photos/videos etc to this drive to free up space on the C: drive.

Okay, I’ve successfully deleted over 80 GB in total, and now have 94 GB free! I re-tried loading the footage, and the blue bar at the bottom started loading, and progressing until almost the very end, but then, like usual, a window came up saying “Magix has stopped working” and then the next window pops up “Magix is shutting down”.  And the video loads fine on Windows Media Player and pretty much any other way of playing the file- except Magix. (By the way, thank you for all of your help!)

Hi Lynns

You should answer the questions asked when someone is trying to help you.

John - I found this in one of Lynns previous posts: "Windows 8.1 Pro, Intel Core i7, RAM 8 GB, 64 bit operating system, and this certain system (laptop) came with 1 TB of space" so RAM doesn't seem like an issue but maybe there is not a big enough pagefile setup?

Lynns - I would try loading the said file into a new project and see if this behaves any different.

Open Task manager performance tab and see what the Physical memory graph and "System > Page File" usage is reporting as the file loads

Also do a good defrag of your Hard drive.
