Iphone .mov files have no audio. Magix Video Pro X2

sportup wrote on 7/4/2016, 5:05 AM

I know I'm using an older program but it has done me fine in the past, up until now.

I have recently bought a new laptop with Windows 10 on it.  I am running Magix Video Pro X2 download version.  It's older but worked wonders on my old laptop and I never felt the need to upgrade.

On this new laptop, all audio plays w/o issue except for .mov files specifically filmed on my iPhone.  to clarify, .mov files from other sources like my camera work with perfect audio.

I read some other forum questions, I made sure the "export sound from video" box is clicked in the settings;audio/video tab, still nothing.  I've restarted and tried different videos to the same result: audio fine except for the ones that are filmed via cell phone.

I want to reiterate that these same movies work perfectly when I use the same program on my older laptop.  Is there a codec I downloaded in the past that I'm not recalling and have not downloaded onto the new laptop?

Any help or advice would be appreciated.

Hi

. . . . Is there a codec I downloaded in the past that I'm not recalling and have not downloaded onto the new laptop? . . .

Quicktime must be installed on the laptop, however there is a gotcha - Quicktime has a serious security vulnerability and will not be patched by Adobe - see this article.

I would suggest you convert the MOV fles to another format eg MP4 and use these for VPX.

Thanks, John.  Do you have any advice on how to convert the format to an MP4 or similar file?  I've done this before with Video Pro X2, but any attempts now will result in no sound.  Any free software or programs that can handle this; assume I'm fairly ignorant with a novice level understanding.

Thanks again, I really appreciate it.

There are several free programs which will convert video, however I have found them to be limited in terms of uality and range of file types they will convert.

I use a paid for converter - Movavi Video Converter -  which has a wide range supported file formats and does not require Quicktime to be installed.

Hi

I would suspect that VPX2, which must be quite old, would not be compatible with Windows 10.

On the quicktime security thing - I understand that the main danger is whilst playing quicktime in your browser so one thing you can do to lessen the risk is to disable the QT player add ons in the browser unticking all the file and mime associations.

Also I see Magix have included their own QT codec in the latest Video Pro X version which allows you to open and edit .MOV's but unfortunately not export the file, which throws up the QT not installed error. The German forum members advice is to install the Apple QT player and then uninstall it and the codec remains on your system. I have not tried this personally.

I have the same problem, but I recommend installing QTLite 410. It seems less dangerous than the Quick Time outdated.

Installed and had no problems, Kaspersky did not identify any risk.
