Interlaced video

Hi,

I have a project with primarily progressive video but I have to incorporate a few clips of interlaced footage. For the best results with the interlaced video, do I choose "Automatic interlace processing" and check "Interpolate intermediate images" for each clip? Will this provide the best retention of the resolution and temporal data? Is there a way to have Video Pro X apply both of these automatically when adding interlaced footage to the timeline? Thanks!

Hi

. . . . do I choose "Automatic interlace processing" for each clip? . . . .

Interlaced video should be detected automatically and the option turned on, as shown below, however in some circumstances the interlace may not be detected - if this is the case then the option should be turned on for the Interlaced video objects.

. . . . and check "Interpolate intermediate images"  . . . .

This, when turned on, should help reduce any Interlacing artefacts (combing) particularly in pan shots or where there is horizontal movement across the image, it is should also be used when using the Speed effect for creating a 'pseudo slomo' from a 'normal' clip

However, I have also found that for Progressive scan video clips which have a pan in them that appear to have small jerks/jumps - not all pan shots do, it depends on the speed of the pan and direction - turning on this option does help smooth the pan more.

Hi John,

Thanks for your response. It is good to know interlace detection isn't perfect and that interpolation can help with certain progressive clips as well. Thanks again.
