Inability to insert a video in a project on Photostory DeLuxe 2022

bdesha wrote on 2/14/2023, 5:37 AM

I use Photostory DeLuxe 2022 Version 21.0.2.120 (UDP3) Code 8674 KA1 and have found that I am unable to insert a video into any project. I have tried without success apple videos, windows wmv, magix videos, quicktime video etc. I can insert such files successfully in an old version of Photostory Premium VR. Please advise what I need to do. It looks like a software patch is needed.

@bdesha

First, thank you for reposting your question as a new thread.

Can you tell us rather more about your computer and its hardware and software, please? Have a look at this post to see the sort of information that is invaluable.

Then , please go to File>Settings>Program Settings (shortcut Y) and show us a screenshot of the Device options tab. Have you tried changing whatever is shown there to any other option you have (click on the down arrow)?

Finally, can you confirm whether or not any inserted video file will play properly but not export or whether it will not even play?

It might also prove useful if you were to follow this tutorial to create and share with us a MediaInfo analysis of any one or more of the video files you cannot use.

Most, if not all, of the file types you are using are not problematic for other users it seems, so I doubt whether any software patch is needed to resolve this for you.

Hi Jeff,

Thanks very much for looking into this for me. The information that you are after is set out below:

Device name    Bhaskar2018Desktop
Processor    Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-8700 CPU @ 3.20GHz   3.19 GHz
Installed RAM    16.0 GB
System type    64-bit operating system, x64-based processor

Edition    Windows 10 Home
Version    21H2 Up to date
Installed on    ‎7/‎10/‎2020
OS build    19044.2486
Experience    Windows Feature Experience Pack 120.2212.4190.0

Audio: NVidia High Definition audio. Virtual audio device (WDM)

Video: NVidia GeForce GT640

Hard drives; Samsung 500Gb SSD, 4Tb hard drive, 8 Tb external hd for backups

Magix Photostory Deluxe. Ver 21.0.2.120. Code UG 8674 KA1

Example of sequence of events when error is encountered:

  • Slideshow produced with a mix of photos jpg and NEF (Nikon raw). Project plays ok.
  • Insert a video file img_0162 mov file 112 Mb
  • Video either freezes or plays without image showing on monitor. See screenshot. Controls for pause/stop etc are not responsive.

See screenshots for:

  • Magix software settings
  • Mediainfo on video and audio files

Any inserted video file does not play properly: either cause the program to hang or plays without image on monitor.

Having gone through the data gathering exercise for this post has caused me to remember having changed the computer video card sometime in the last 10 months or so. Prior to that video files did not present any problem when inserted into the project. I have a feeling that the replacement card is the cause of the problem that I am encountering.

I keep getting errors when uploading screenshots (.png) files. Any suggestions for what I should do.

Looking forward to your analysis and advice.

Bhaskar

Hi

. . . . NVidia GeForce GT640 . . .  I have a feeling that the replacement card is the cause of the problem that I am encountering . . . .

I would agree - the GT640 is not usable by the program as it does not support NVENC - I would suggest removing the GT640 and rely on the Intel UHD 630 - check the drivers are up to date - latest version is 31.0.101.3790/31.0.101.2114.

If you do require a Nvidia graphics card then I would suggest a GTX 1060 as an absolute minimum, preferably higher eg an RTX series.

. . . . I keep getting errors when uploading screenshots (.png) files . . . .

Try the jpg file format.

Hi Jeff,

I am truly appreciative of your assistance - I have disabled the GT640 and everything works perfectly.

I have also learned how to use the Magix forum (no hijacking of others posts in the future!).

Kind regards,

Bhaskar

Hi John,

Just a follow up question please: when you write "rely on the Intel UHD 630" did you mean that I need to purchase one? I could not locate such an item on my desktop.

Hi

. . . . Intel UHD 630" did you mean that I need to purchase one . . . .

No, the UHD 630 integrated graphic chip is in the i7-8700 CPU. Photostory should have defaulted to this once the GT 640 was disabled.
