Import file - lock up

When I try to import a video file that is an AVI file, the program locks up and will not respond. The file never loads. What am I doing wrong?

Hi, welcome to the Magix forums.

First, thank you for posting some of the details about your computer, it is really helpful. One thing that is missing, unfortunately, is details of the type of your hard drive and amount of free space.

However, I think we need to establish first whether VSCL is freezing because of something in your video file which it does not like. .avi is a "container" format, which can include a wide variety of codecs and the one or more required by your file may not be present on your computer, or VSCL cannot access it.

So, can you play the file in any other video file player on your system? If yes, all required codecs are on your computer but one or more may not be available to VSCL. If not, we need to establish which codec(s) is/are required so...

Then, please download and install the version of the free MediaInfo Utility which is appropriate for your computer, point it to the problematic .avi file and post the results of the Text view here.
