Why can't I save files as MP4? This option does not appearwhen I proceed to 'finish'. Also the MP2 files are split in two. That is of no use to me. How can I produce a single MP2 file? I should not have to purchase a 'full edition' when the packaging and instructions show no restriction.

Do you mean mpeg-2? MP2 is the old audio file format before becoming mp3.
What is the size of the two files and how long a recording are you making?

Hi John: I am running Windows 7-64bit and Video Easy SE 3.01.51. The only export options once I select DVD Quality are WMV or MPEG-2. The resultant file has specifications PAL 720x576 25fps which I have selected in options. One of the captures resulted in a split file, the results being 1.99KB and 41.3MB, with a combined playing time of 1 hour 30 mins. I have reinstalled the codec pack from the instal disk supplied by Kaiser Baas, and this includes MPEG-4, however it doesn't give the option to use it. The product did not require registration on opening. I am saving recordings to a portable drive formatted for Mac as HFSJ. I originally had it formatted as FAT-32, and thought perhaps the filesize limitations were causing the splitting. The saved files have the extension .MPG, which I can rename as .MP4 without causing any problems with playback. When I convert the .MPG file to an .MP4 using VidCoder, the resultant file is smaller. I downloaded a Trial Version of the full product. It allows various codecs, but is restricted to a 3 minute recording, so no use to disclose if file splitting still occurs. Split files are of no use to me for this project I am undertaking. Would appreciate any more assistance you can provide. Thanks, Bob
Since I wrote the last post, I have copied two VHS tapes. One was over 1 hour 50 minutes long and was exported as a single MPG file of 4.89GB. The next VHS tape was 55 minutes, and using the same settings produced two files, the first 1.99GB of 44.50 minutes, whilst the second part 459MB was the remaining 10 minutes. Something is quite awry.

The inconsistency is 'odd' - initially I thought you were recording to a drive which was formatted FAT32 or to USB memory sticks or to memory cards which do have the 2GB file size limitation.
Is there any reason for using the Mac HFSJ file system?
Is the portable drive partitioned into 2 drives?
Are you running Windows on a MAC using Parallels or something similar?

Hi again. I am using the Mac format so I can also capture VHS tapes using the alternative software provided for Mac on my MacBookPro, however that is proving unsuccessful also for other reasons. I am therefore only using the PC.There is only one partition on the drive. I have subsequently done a tape of over 2 hours' duration. The resultant output ended up split into 3 parts, the first two of 1.99GB and the third with the remainder. I tried saving the output direct to my desktop instead of the portable drive, but still ended up with 'split' files. The real mystery is why it hasn't happened every time, however there have been few exceptions - only one or two in fact. I have closed and restarted the PC a number of times, but that has not made any difference.

I am beginning to suspect that the Windows HFS driver is having issues with the HSFJ formatted disc.
Which Windows HSF driver have you installed?

Thanks John. I don't think that can be relevant, as the files still split when I save to desktop. I am using MacDrive 8 to read/write to the HSFJ formatted disc. I will try on another Windows formatted disc and see how that goes. I tried uninstalling Video easy SE, then restart, reinstall, restart. Then it wouldn't work at all. I would press the 'transfer to computer' button and it would immediately cancel. I repeated that process, and it is now recording.
