Hi,

in Movie Studio 2022 Suite cannot split long movie.

I edit more than 5 h long video from my recent trip and wanted to split it into couple parts, so I highlighted about an hour long from a timeline, right clicked: Copy Objects, created a new project, then tried to Paste it but message was: Clipboard is empty. So how can I do it? please help, Gregory

Hi

You cannot copy from a project into a new project.

There is a mouse option for doing this which will give you each section as a timeline in the one project

  1. Position the timeline cursor where you want the split to be

  2. Click and hold down on the ... of the Cut icon (scissors) to get drop down click the Split movie option

  3. This will create a new timeline and paste the rest of the contents into it

  4. if you require more than one split select the newly created timeline and repeat from step 1

Once this is done you can edit/export each timeline as a separate movie, or if creating a BluRay disc, y use the burn option - this will create a multi movie disc complete with menus, however 5 hrs is pushing the limits of a dual layer disc so you may need to adjust the bitrates to fit the disc - you will be warned about this as you go through the Burn dialogs.

If you want to burn over several discs - I can do a short tutorial for you.

Hi

. . . . Export movie as mp4 (4k-30)on USB sticks to watch on my TV . . . . .

Exporting the individual timelines, after splitting, will improve manageability.

Options are limited using this type of media and depend on functionality on the TV i.e. if the TV, or player, if it supports USB sticks for playback, and has a player app, or allows playing a folder of video files or a selection of individual files. Otherwise, selection for playback is going to be manual.

Other options:-

  • If the TV connected to your network:

    - cast the video from the PC or Laptop

    - Set up the PC as a DLNA server - see this article- I use this method when I do not want to create
    discs.

  • If the TV, or player, has a player app that supports MKV file format, then you can convert the mp4's to this and add Chapters into the video file if desired.
