How to replace one object with another

..For instance, in a music sequence, where every shot is (say) 1 bar long. Is there a simple way to replace one shot with another taken from the arranger, without changing the cut points? (ie the edit 'hole' remains the same)?

I realise this is possible using TAKES, but I would prefer to kee everything within the arranger, so that I don't risk duplicating shots.

If I understand your question: Place your new 'shot' under the original, f. i. on track 3 and 4. Adjust it to the same length as the 'shot' you want to replace. Mark the original, ungroup it and delete or drag the sound down. You need not remove the original, as it is 'in the shade'.
