How to motion blur?

I searched the manual and only found "distortion" "motion" to give a little blur to something moving. Is there another way to do this? When I tried to do it, the screen pretty much blacked out. Was not possible.

The same occurs when I apply the motion distortion, and I've never seen it addressed anywhere. I guess there have always been enough other toys in the box to keep me busy, but I too would like to know the purpose of the effect.
Maybe you can experiment with lowering the frame rate of the clip and choosing to interpolate between frames to get a blur effect?
