How to minimize the edit screen

I cannot minimize the filmstrip to access any other function in edit mode. How can I shrink this?

I don't exactly understand the question, but have you tried pressing the letters L, F, or V ? See what happens !

If you go to File > Movie settings (E) you can set the number of tracks in use.

Try using the tiny plus and minus symbals on the lower right side of the screen. As an example you can make the audio channel very large when editing the sound.
