How to make a 10 sec clip "SLOW MOTION" ?

How to make a 10 sec clip go in Slow Motion but the next clip stay in real time? 
I have a split point after the 10 second clip but have tried going to
> Video effects
>moving the slider to play speed 0.5 BUT it affects the next clip!!
I only want it to affect the 10 sec clip NOT affect the next clip!!
If you understand my ramblings..

make sure you only click on (highlight) the 10 sec clip you want to be slo mo befor applying the effect. As you move the slider to 0.5 you will see the 10 sec clip grow in length so you will need to select everything after and move it to the right either before or after the speed adjust.

Bye the way, if you don't want to slow the soundtrack as well then you will need to split the audio from the video by clicking ungroup (split chain icon).
