how to fade music in and out

Mary-Stutzman wrote on 10/20/2022, 1:18 PM

I have a slide show with pictures and videos mixed. I have added music but don't know how to fade it in at the beginning of the slideshow. It just starts at full volume. Is there a way to fade in and then out again... I would like to fade out the music when it comes to a video so that the sounds from the video come through and then fade back in to the music to continue the slideshow. I have figured out how to cut the music and move the "pieces". Just can't seem to figure out the fade in and out...thanks!

Hi,

On the timeline, just use the left and right fader handles on the audio clip. If you don't know what fade handles are, watch this tutorial:

I suggest that you also watch my tutorials on Everything Audio, at least part 1:

Hi

The fade in out for the start and end of the audio clip is the same as for images and video, use either:

  • the Fade in/out transition

  • drag the handles indicated in the image below (the start handle has already been moved to create a fade in)

  • use the Object editor to set the fade in/out

For the 'ducking ' of the audio you can use a Volume curve - see this comment for how.

thank you very much for this! Now I have another problem. I read in the "help" section about setting start and end markers so that when I want to work on just one section, it will loop through that only. However, when I follow the directions, it is not working. Everytime I hit the play button, it starts back at the beginning of the slideshow again...

It says that right-clicking sets an "out point" in that spot and left-clicking sets the "in point." When I right-click, it just pulls down a menu. I do not see any in or out points... Can you help me with this?

Hi Mary,

I really must do a tutorial on the Range bar.

Go to where you want to start your range and press " I " for the In point. Go to the end point of what you want (put the playback marker there), and press " O " for the Outpoint. To playback just the range, use the playback button that has brackets on either side.

Alternatively, do the same but instead of I and O, use the left and right brackets in the transport controls at the bottom of the preview monitor. To playback just the range, use the playback button that has brackets on either side.

The way that you were doing it is fine, but you have to click in the Range bar area above the timeline.

Hey guys, I'd like to know if there's a way to bring back the old Sony curved fade in and out look. I don't know if that's even a thing anymore, but I thought I'd just ask.

@LoganTMT

Hi

. . . . the old Sony curved fade in . . . .

In Magix Movie Studio the Flexible Cross fade has adjustable fade settings, after applying the effect, right click the x-fade icon, see image below, and select Settings to open the curve options dialog.
