How to cut and save as a new project

I am using movie edit pro 16 and trying to cut excerpts from a pre-existing video.  I've been able to select the in and out points that I would like to cut.  When I try to paste into a new project it says "clipboard empty."  Any help is greatly appreciated - this program does way more than I need it to!

Press the "T" (cut) at the in- and outpoints and mark the video between, then press Ctrl+C to copy into the clipboard. Now place the cursor where you want it inserted and press Ctrl+V. That's all!

You are pasting into a new Project? If you are shutting down that project to open a different one to paste into your clipboard will not hold that information. You should open a "new movie" within the existing project , then copy and paste from one to the other.

Use the "movie reel symbol" just above the storyline to create a new movie for this process. Then you can copy the section desired and switch to the new movie using the same symbol. Make sure you name the new movie something different then the first to avoid confusion.
