how do you access the video and audio effects

when i press edit it go to a timline
but when other people do it it says: my media,video effects audio FX ect.

please help me im struggling

Yes, when you are in edit mode, in the upper right hand corner, directly below the 3 main buttons of "Record", "Edit", and "Burn", there is a further subset of buttons: "Import", "Fades", "Titles", "Effects" and "Movement". Click on "effects" to access audio and video effects.
