How do I edit S-VHS video tapes

Whenever I attempt to edit a s-VHS video the preview screen image is garbled. The audio portion is OK. The results are the same regardless whether I specify and use a composite or s-video input. Any suggestions?

Are you able to record any VHS?

Is the program set to record NTSC or PAL?

Program set to NTSC as it should be and was able to record VHS. Noticed I had an old driver for the USB device 2861 so downloaded the current version. Now wrestling with its installation. Removed previous Videowandler version and installed new driver but when I connect the USB device to my computer windows is unable to locate the new version. Hmmm?
