BigDaz,

Right click in the preview window and pick 'Time display':

...or pick the 'Title' menu tab and go to the 'Timecode' entry on its menu.

In any event, you will get a title object added to your timeline and you will have lots of choices for format etc under the 'Settings' tab. If you are only using the codes during editing it's easy enough to mute the track for any exports.
