How can I maximize the length of a beat longer than 4 beats?

I am new, and I a making beats, but I don't know how to maximize the sheet. It's a lot to learn I know. I am also trying to record, but my recording only goes as far as the beat.

Hi,
Not sure what you mean by beat... but in Music Maker, you can drag the end marker (usually set for four beats) to the right extending your recording area. I've had this happen a few times during recording. It's not a good system... it should move as you record. What software are you using?
