Help to use Zoom following a face along the timelibne.

1940 wrote on 9/12/2022, 3:45 AM

Hi,

We have a person on stage in a frame where one can see the stage and the full size person in the middle of it and I want to also use a duplicate clip so I can zoom to get a close up in effect giving me a 2 cam shoot.

I get the zoom okay but the person moves a lot so the close up face disappears every few seconds then come back into view as he moves.

What is the best way for em to try and get as many close ups as I can over the timeline.

Would it be set the zoom for a certain time of the clip while they are in view then save that part and move the zoom to where he is later and do the same ? Or is there a better way? Shame it can't follow the face as if it was an actual camera that follows.

Hope it is clearer than mud !

Thanks

@1940 Hi, yep, clear as thin mud, think i get you but can you post some pictures? & i presume you're using VPX14?

Can you go to your icon at the top of this page, My Profile & fill in your Signature with Windows version, Magix version & PC specs, full name of the CPU & GPU, also the amount of RAM 👍

@1940

Camera/Zoomshot is what you want. It's "shape", for want of a better word, is fixed to the ratio of the movie ie 4:3, 16:9, but you can accurately track a head and zoom in and out on it as they are moving around.

Every time you adjust the position or size of the bounding box, VPX will insert a new keyframe.

My struggle is over! I built my (now) system 2 in 2011 when DV was king and MPEG 2 was just coming onto the scene and I needed a more powerful system to cope. Since then we've advanced to MP4 and to bigger and bigger resolutions. I was really suffering, not so much in editing (with proxies) but in encoding, which just took ages. A video, with Neat Video noise reduction applied, would encode at 12% of film speed. My new system 1 does the same job at 160% of film speed. Marvellous. I'm keeping my old system as a capture station for analogue video tapes and DV.

Thank you guys for the help.

AAProd can you explain a little more about tracking or point me to a video.

I have messed with it a little and placing it Multicam as I have the two tracks. Original and the one I want to zoom, but am looking for a youtube or sim video to really explain it as it does sound like what I need.

I don't really need to zoom, I guess what I want it a continual close up of the face so I can cross to it every now and then.

Sorry if I sent you down a rabbit hole although I will definitely use the zoom too now I know.

@1940

Before we go any further, as per Gid's post, could we have your program name and version number.

Do you want a "picture in picture" type arrangement or just a "zoom in, follow, then zoom out" type of thing?

A screenshot of your initial attempt would be good. Use the blue Up-arrow button to insert a image into your posts.

@1940 Hi, just want to point out that neither MS or VPX have tracking, not the type you might be thinking, when @AAProds mentioned tracking he meant physically adjusting the image which will auto add keyframes each time you reposition the image on screen to follow the subject,

1940 wrote on 9/13/2022, 12:26 AM

Okay. I have been looking at all the key frame videos I can to try and get a grip.

It is the way to move the frame that's around the face when it changes in the source and is in a different position, so that it is keyed that I am not sure how to do.

In the meantime I've noticed that my multi source screen shows this not 2 separate frames.

Must have touched something as it was okay before.

What would that be?

EDIT:

Had to create a new project to have the multi show the 2 screens in the source frame.

@1940

Personally, unless I wanted to fade in or out those closeup shots I would do everything on one track, cutting and tracking where needed.

Go to each section you want to expand and cut the beginning and ending of each section you want to alter.

Then reduce the monitors frame size to 50% so you can see the boarder of the size / position / rotation effect that you have selected for that cut section and easily drag to the size and position needed. and add your first key frame to the start of that section.

Next, if the subject does not move position within the frame or you do not wish to move the subject within the frame straight away, scroll along the timeline until you want to reposition the frame again and then back track one frame and add another key frame at the same position as the last one. If you do not do that the frame position will drift, expand or contract before you want it to.

Then go to the next position you need to keep the subject where you need it to be and add a key frame, changing the size and / or position needed to keep things looking smooth.

Repeat as needed until you have finished that section. Finally, show the frames in the monitor at 100% again for playback.

Play back result.

Ray.
