Help for Title Templates

Ian-Schwartz wrote on 12/14/2023, 2:55 PM

Does anyone know where I can find detailed Help for the Title Templates? When I click Help->context help it just takes me to the cover page of the on-line help. I tried searching the PDF and there is no more detail than "You can choose from a wide range of pre-made title templates..."

The Peaceful (Outro) template changes fonts and sizes every line or so. It would be great to be able to know what drives that. And what do "Automatic text break" and "Adjust font size to fill title field".

Hi

. . . . Peaceful (Outro) template changes fonts and sizes every line or so . . . .

This is a long scrolling multi line title animated to scroll upwards using Size, Position and Rotation effect.

The different stye/font sizes you can do by highlighting a line of text and changes the appropriate settings in the Title effects dialog. You can do this to individual characters as well.

. . . . Automatic text break . . . .

Is better known as word wrap, when the text gets to long for the containing field 'bounding box' a new line is started.

. . . . Adjust font size to fill title field . . . .

The maximises the font size so the title fills the bounding box - you can adjust the size of this box by its handles round the rectangle.

Thanks for the help John. It would be good if this kind of how to advice was available in "official" Magix documentation.

Ian-Schwartz wrote on 12/14/2023, 4:29 PM

I followed your instructions and attempted to apply different style/font sizes to the Sugared (Outro) template. I wanted to maintain the same look with my titles, so I highlighted each line to obtain the font specs. Magix reported either different font sizes for the same text or different font names for each line, or missed the font name completely. In the attached screenshots, the Headline is what the font & size should look like and the captions are what Movie Studio reports the highlighted text as.

HI

Apologies for the delay in responding.

I am currently working from my laptop and do not have MMS 2022 installed on it, however I can see a similar behaviour with MMS 2023. MMS 2024 is OK.

It looks like a Preview display update bug, however I cannot find any mention of this in the forum or patch notes.

I did find if you change the font of a line and type in the font size and press Enter the preview does update.

Hi,

It looks like the template was probably copied from another one that used Quicksand and then modified.

Looking at the overall title without it being open in the Preview Monitor, the font shows as Quicksand.

The first line - if you just highlight 1 word, the font is Amatic 6, not Quicksand. When you highlight the entire line, it goes beyond the text and shows Quicksand 27.

Second line (blank) - click or double-click, font is Qucksand 27.

Third line - highlight 1 word, font is GEN W01 Light 8, but double-click to get entire line plus - gives Quicksand 25. There is no Quicksand on that line.

Fourth line - 1 word, font is Amatic 16, but double-click to highlight the entire line and you get Dancing Script 12.

Fifth line (blank) - font is Quicksand 27.

Sixth line - 1 word font is GEN W01 Light 8, but highlight entire line gives Quicksand 25.

And so on. It's one of the hazards of creating a title by modifying one that uses different fonts and sizes.

Try making your own from scratch...oops, crashed MMS twice making the title.

@johnebaker There is a problem here with crashing while trying to change the fonts in a title.

Hi John

Good catch on the template issue.

. . . . There is a problem here with crashing while trying to change the fonts in a title . . . .

I had one crash when I select several lines of text which had different fonts, I was going to make them all the same font. I have not seen one since.

Hi John EB,

I was trying to make a new multiline title similar to the Sugared Outro. The crashes occurred while trying to change a font on one of the lines, fourth or fifth. MMS 2024 just disappears, so no crash log.

EDIT: Just tried again and was successful - no crash. Oops, sorry, I'm now in VPX, not MMS.

I noticed that the overall font listed is the last one used, that is, the font of the last character or line if multiline, not the last one used if done on another line.

Hi John

I did get a crash log when it crashed on me this morning, the faulting module was mxtype_x64.dll which is the TrueType rendering routines.

Was the font you were trying to change to a standard Windows font or one you have installed?

I am having an issue with a font I installed and used to work, problem is I do not which version of MMS/VPX it stopped working in 😞

Hi John EB,

I think that I used just the same fonts that were in the template - Amatic and GEN W01 Light, and maybe Quicksand.

Busy with forensics here, tracking down where we went, what we did, and when at Christmas 2003. Being an Engineer, we keep everything (or almost), so I went through the receipts for Dec2003/Jan2004, added to my notes in my agenda 2003, added to 2004 as there was nothing there - didn't yet have the agenda. Now to edit the material. I'm a little behind on my Christmas videos.
