Has anyone else had problems with magix after exceeding the limited number of software activations?

I've been a loyal magix customer since 2006. Now I'm very dissapponted to find out that Magix only allows a limited number of times that you can activate their software. While I was speaking to someone in the sales department and explainig why I had to reactivate my software so many times, I seemed to be speculated of illegale use of their software more than having them provide help. Sales dept. stated that I am allowed 8 activations, and that if I had read the "fine Print" that limited activations are standard procedures for all sotfware companies. I stated that if we the consumers paid for the software, then it shoudln't matter how many times we activate our software if we are using our own computer. I then asked sales dept. that I upgrade to windws 7 if I will be having the same issue about reactivating my software and I was given a vague answer. Has anyone else had this problem?

kslq,

No problem here. I went over my limit when migrating through a couple of new computers and simply explained my situation and requested a reset.

Thanks for the info, but unfortunately for me I haven't had the same luck. Magix has recently responded and granted me an activation but I am afraid to use it because I don't want to go through the same problem again. I am behind on my video production and I have a lot of catching up to do because I have not been able to use the full version of the software. I have been using the same computer all these years, I've only replaced the internal hardware to stay up to date with the video editing technology. Magix specifically told me that the software can only be used on one computer and that consumers are allowed up to eight activations. Customer support said my number of activations is very unusual and that it is normal procedures for businesess to protect their software from piracy. I can understand that standpoint, but I'm not a pirate and I reregistered my software each time I did a re-install. I would think that my re-installations should have suggested to magix that there could be a legitimate problem that I'm having. With all the problems I had with the software, I never found anything in the forums that helped my problems, and the best answer I got out of the forum was to simply re-install the software once the files became corrupt and that is exactly what I have been doing since 1996 with all of the MEP versions that I PURCHASED from magix. Just recently I discovered that I had to roll back to an older driver for my up to date video card because the latest driver has some defects that causes my computer to freeze up. I had frequent hardware excelleration problems for a long time before I discovered this problem. Magix did reset my software once before, but the reset was on a case by case basis. Did magix give you sole use of the software you paid for, or do you have to call magix each time you need to re-install to get activation permission? That is the question. Maybe you're in the UK but for me here in the US it is time consuming for me when I'm on a video production schedule and I'm held up because I have to wait almost a week or more sometimes to get a response from magix headquarters in Europe on activating sofware that I paid for.

I had the same problems with Magix Video ProX because the program would say that I did not have a valid activation code nearly every time I used it. I have 12 registered products with Magix and now the Video Pro X2 has just started messing up. I have used the repair selection on the installation disk but it made it mess up even worse. It cannot find the files to a saved project and when I try to reinstall the HD movies, no sound will come with it. Now Magix does not have any way to contact them unless you pay 12.99. I am not only about done with Magix (since I spend more time trying to get the program to run than editing videos) but I am considering a class action lawsuit. They are going to go bankrupt if they keep delivering faulty programs and refusing to correct them

By the sound of it I think your problem is not so much the number of times you have reactivated the software but the frequency with which you have to do it - this could be viewed suspiciously.

Changing your hardware (except for the HDD) should not necesitate you having to reregister MEP.  It is possibly more likely that Windows cannot read your profile correctly and is restoring a previously goood one which does not have the registration information in it.

Other things which can cause problems are: regular use of a registry cleaner, a particulary aggressive or over protective antivirus, a Spyware removal tool.

Hi John

Magix has helped me out on several occations, installed new board, processor etc. They have then "Upped" the reregistration amount.

I do however have a serious problem. I just bought the new Magix Pro X6 and the export to Quicktime does not work. I have tried everything in the book and now MAGIX support is looking at thje problem.

The older versions had no problem exporting to QT. Has anyone had experience with this issue

MAGIX Support

Make your request through Custoner Service, noy Technical Support. Technical Support is about technical issues with the software. If your system isnt cooperating or something. Activation is a Customer Service issue and you will not be charged.

I realize the post is 2011 and this is 4 years later, but I just had the same problem and answered in case somebody hits this with a the same problem too. I found the solution by diggin a bit.
