General questions

Greetings. I am using Movie Edit Pro Plus 2019 with the latest updates on 64-bit Windows 10. I have a couple questions about some additional software and add-ons.

1) I am considering downloading the "Ignite Keying and Flares" program. Is this compatible with my current version, and does it install as a plugin?

2) The additional effects that I have purchased and installed (transitions, movie templates, titles, etc): If I were to upgrade to a new version of editing software, are those additionals compatible with the new version or will I need to purchase them again?

3) I have an old version of Xara 3D title maker (perhaps 2010 or 2011). I ran into a problem when I was running MEP 2017, where I was no longer able to import custom .x3d files into the timeline (never found a solution). Does anyone know of any compatibility issues with this program with MEP 2019.

Thanks in advance.

Hi.

Anything offered through the store content should be compatible with the program although be aware that third party plugins often require higher performance than the basic requirements for MEP. In this instance I don't think that is the case. I have Hitfilm Ignite Colour Cine which includes flares and it runs well enough in MEP 2022 and also ran in MEP 2020 prior to that. The Ignite Keying and Flares plugin is now only legally available via the Magix store content as HitFilm itself no longer provide their older plugin packs from their website.

As for Xara. I don't have that but @browj2 here has it and I believe he has had problems getting it to run properly now for some time. I personally think the program has become less compatible with Windows and Direct X over time and needs updating.

Hi,

Xara 3D Maker works fine here. There was a problem at some point and I don't remember if it was with my old or new computer. If on my new computer, I reinstalled it. As a result, when I select a 3D title in Movie Studio, 3D Maker opens.

However, there may be problems with Windows 11. I'm on 10.

For your second question, whatever you purchased from Magix in the Store should work in newer versions. I have a lot obtained over the years and have not any problems.

For your first question, I would avoid Ignite (although it's not expensive). The problem that I have found with the Hitfilm plugins is that the position X and Y cannot be properly keyframed. One of them goes to infinity, making them useless. I have raised multiple tickets about this, to no avail.

Instead, I suggest BluffTitler. You can do amazing 3D effects with it.

There is also Boris Particle Illusion. It's free but as a standalone.

Hi John.

Can you specify exactly which Hitfilm plugins give you problems and what are you trying to key frame as only one Hitfilm plugin I have has positional sliders and has not given me any trouble. In playback the 'Tile' effect is not smooth down to my nvidia card not being that strong but the exports are fine.

HitFilm Light Streaks

Hi Ray,

Hitfilm Light Streaks doesn't have any position parameters. Use one that does.

Watch this. The problem that I raised with VPX11 is still there today.

Hi John.

Apparently I don't have any that have position parameters. I think I once did but they were removed with an upgrade at some point. Those that are left on my system all appear to work.

I assume all effects are like the main program and can only be of use on certain operating systems as Windows and graphics drivers evolve. Eventually they will all fail. How old are those effects?

I don't think any on current offer have position parameters either but it is worth noting the HitFilm itself no longer uses its own legacy product plugins, relying instead on Boris Effects and other third party developers to add their effects. Possibly under a blanket licence which may be cheaper than developing their own. It seems a trend among video editing software packages in general. Even their own plugins won't work on their newest program release.

Ray.

Hi

. . . . old version of Xara 3D title maker  . . . .

The full version does not work for me on Windows 11, only the inbulit 3D Maker opens.

. . . . upgrade to a new version of editing software, are those additionals compatible with the new version . . .

For MMS 2022 and later, some of them may be upgraded to the latest versions.

Xara stopped working for me a while back with a previous edition of MEP, when it would no longer allow me to import the .x3d files. No solution was ever found, so I gave up. I just tested my old Xara install file and it installed the download trial version without issue, and although I paid for the program, I am no longer able to activate the full version. Guess it's just too old, and it appears Magix no longer provides support for it.

Go to your Magix account, log in, go to My products and find the listing for Xara 3D. I've just checked mine and it includes my serial key; yours should be the same.
