FTP ACCESS

reuben-davison wrote on 8/30/2017, 7:47 AM

I am trying to access our magix photo album via FTP so that I can download all the files for archive purposes

I am using FileZilla

The only details I can find online say I use ftp.magix-online.com but this rejects me (obviously I'm using my logon details below, not xxxx !)

Status:    Resolving address of ftp.magix-online.com
Status:    Connecting to 195.214.216.66:21...
Status:    Connection established, waiting for welcome message...
Status:    Insecure server, it does not support FTP over TLS.
Command:    USER xxxxxxx
Response:    331 User name okay, need password for xxxxxxx.
Command:    PASS *********
Response:    530 Authentication failed.
Error:    Critical error: Could not connect to server

Anyone help !

No, we pay an annual fee for hosting

johnebaker wrote on 8/30/2017, 12:27 PM

Hi

Have you tried logging in to your album from here, if you cannot, then the account details you are entering may be not those used to setup the online hosting.

Did you set up the Online hosting to use the same user name and password as for the forum?

I am currently logged into mine and can also log in using Filezilla.

1. yes

2. yes, logged into forum using same details as I tried for FTP - Do your FileZilla details match what I have shown above (ie IP address) ?

I asked there tech help about this ten days ago and have not had a response yet :-(

reuben-davison wrote on 8/30/2017, 12:59 PM

FYI, I've just tried connecting with a made up user name and it gives the same response so the user name I'm trying is no good either despite it working here and on the portal....

Status:    Connection established, waiting for welcome message...
Response:    220 Service ready for new user.
Command:    USER NO ONE I KNOW
Response:    331 User name okay, need password for NO ONE I KNOW.
Command:    PASS *********
Response:    530 Authentication failed.

This also fails (with the correct email set as PWD)

Command:    USER anonymous
Response:    331 Guest login okay, send your complete e-mail address as password.
Command:    PASS ************************
Response:    530 Authentication failed.

Hi

The IP address is the same as yours in Filezilla, I also get the same message that the server does not support FTP over TLS.

I asked 'Have you tried logging in to your album from here', to which you replied

. . . . 1. yes . . . .

One word answers to a question that has 2 possible results does not help, was the log in successful or failed.

Is FileZilla set to use passive mode for FTP transfers - see FTP option in the program settings?

Can you also enable logging to a file, in the program settings, and try connecting again, then shut down Filezilla, open the log file with Notepad, and post the results of that log file here.

Sorry, yes I can connect to the album fine and access the control centre but it only lets me download a few files at a time and loses the folder structure, hence me wanting to use FTP.

Tried passive mode - no difference.

Log file shows same as console output

Do you have the connection to Magix Online stored in the Filezilla Site Manager (Ctrl+S)?

If Yes then check the following options are set correctly:
General tab - Protocol is set to FTP
Adanced tab - Server type is set to Autodetect
Transfer settings tab - Transfer mode is set to Default
Charset tab - Autodect is selected.

If No, and Filezilla program settings have not been modified, it will automatically try the different protocols to connect.

This leaves the password as the only possible cause - it is case sensitive and the stored password is not correct. In which case try entering the details again in the Host, Username, Password boxes below the menu bar in Filezilla.

Thanks for all the help here but tried all the above with no success - not seeing the bits in bold that you do but they are just testing security modes aren't they and both of your fail anyway.

It can only be the login details that are not correct for FTP access even though they work with the main portal and this forum - as I say, I posted a support question 10 days ago and had no reply.

Do you work for Magix John ? maybe you can give me someone's email address to poke ?

tks

Hi

. . . . they are just testing security modes aren't they and both of your fail anyway . . . .

Yes they are , however in your log I cannot see whether your Filezilla installation is actually doing this, if it is not then there could be an issue with the Filezilla installation rather than the Magix Online portal.

A further check and alternative method to using Filezilla, is to open Windows Explorer and enter ftp.magix-online.com in the address bar and hit Enter.

You should then be presented with a login box as shown below

Enter your logon details and Log on.

If the logon succeeds then you should see, in the right pane, all your files and sub folders, if there are any, as mine are shown below.

From here you can copy and paste them to your PC as you would if using a memory card or USB stick - as you can see in the image above I was copying an entire folder down to my PC.

No, same - just bounces straight back to the logon screen so more fuel for the wrong permissions theory.

In theory, this should also work, but doesn't

Username : Anonymous

Pwd : user email address

meanwhile, still no response from Magix tech support - not looking hopeful....

Hi

Username : Anonymous

Pwd : user email address . . . .

Anonymous is a specific account which has to be created by the web site administrators for specific usage.

Anonymous access was a typical method for some sites to allow public access to, for example, archived documents via FTP, without the need for registering with that site.

Any site which does not have the Anonymous account set up will not respond to an Anonymous login, it is not a general log in format for accessing customer specific areas within a site.

If it did exist, and allowed redirection to a customer account, that would be a serious security loophole and would mean anyone who knows you email address would be able to access your account.
