From vhs to dvd

I'm totally green with this video-editing and hope someone here can point me to a "step-by-step" on how to get a vhs on a dvd.

I have managed to record the vhs and it's now on my harddisk. But is saved in .mvx format. Then the file is too large to burn on the dvd. Is it possible to change the format? What is the correct format so that I can get these movies to play on my dvd player?

Thant you!! :)

Format DVD - video uses compression of data under standard Mpeg2. High quality and the comprehensible size is thus reached. For what data are compressed? That they took less places!
When you  record video from VHS to your computer for the further editing - video recorded Not in format Mpeg2. Why? Because format Mpeg2 means loss of quality and is NOT convenient for editing.

On it the program has record video with smaller degree of compression and now it will be simple for editing.

But you do not need to worry about a format, suitable for record on DVD - a disk as the program itself will transcode your video in the necessary format. You need to specify only that you wish to create DVD - a disk.
