Freezing Laptop during final conversion and save process.

Hi

I am using Fastcut on HP Windows 10 based laptop. It has worked fine for quite a while but now during the final saving process the application freezes along with the laptop. The only way out of this is to restart the computer. This is happening about 60 to 70% of the time. If I don't use the laptop while the final conversion process in place it still freezes. However, as soon as I try and do something else on the computer while Fastcut is on the final process then the laptop seems to freeze on a more regular basis.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled on two or three occasions.

Thanks

Your mention of more frequent freezes of your computer if you are doing something else at the same time as the "final saving" is happening, strongly suggests that your computer is not really powerful enough or fast enough to handle what you are asking it to do.

We need a lot more detail of the computer's spec to have any chance of being able to offer any advice. You say Win 10, but which version and build? What CPU? How much RAM? How much disk space do you have, and what type of disc (HDD or SSD)?

Laptop is HP Pavillion with Intel i5 4288u processor, 2.6ghz, 8gb Ram, 1.4TB HD. Free HD is approx 1.1TB.

Windows 10 version 1607, Build No 14393.953.

The Laptop freezes during the final process where the new video is been saved.

Thanks

Hi, thanks for the additional information.

I tried to find some details about your specific HP laptop but I was unsuccessful. However, a quick check on the MAGIX site of the requirements for Fastcut shows your CPU is only just above the bare minimum this program requires ("Multi-core processor with 2 GHz"). I wonder, given that your problem seems to occur more often when the laptop is "multitasking", whether this is the key to what is going wrong?

From the specification page for your CPU I see it is possible to overclock it (from 2.6GHz to 3.1GHz). Are you able to do this on your machine?

In the past, when I was running a much slower computer, I have used a utility called End It All to allow me to safely close a number of background running processes and so release resources on the computer to allow video editing and processing to proceed. But I don't know if it runs under Windows 10 and/or 64 bit.

As a general point, you clearly have a large amount of free space on your single HDD but it is always a very good idea when working with video to have a separate (external, in your case) hard drive where the actual video files are saved/exported to, leaving your internal drive to run Windows and Programs.

Just to clarify: when you say "freeze", do you mean it appears to be doing nothing ("stops responding") or does it literally "stop" and you can do nothing except reboot it?

Hi Jeff

When it freezes the laptop is completely locked on and I have to reboot. It only does it when saving the final edited video. Think the laptop automatically adjusts CPU speed. It also freezes on final saving part even if I do not have other apps open. It's funny that it didn't use to do it until the fastcut updates a while ago.

Hi

Is the laptop the HP Pavilion 15 -p189na - there should be a label on the bottom with the model number?

Did you upgrade from Windows 8.1 to 10?

What is the source video format and resolution, and which export setting you are using?

Is the laptop getting very warm to touch?
