Fill Vertical video from cellphone with blur background

SullyPanda76us wrote on 9/24/2017, 5:44 PM

Hi people!

Is a standard in news when they use vertical-cellphone footage to fill the background with the same video, zoomed and with blur.

Is there an easy way to achieve this. As far I had copied the footage on another track, zoomed and blurred.... I think it might be an easier way (especially because I might edit the video... cut some portions)

Thanks!

Use 2 video track, Track1 is the vertical video but you use position /size and zoom to fill the screen plus you add a video effect use artistic blur about 12%. Track 2 is the same video in vertical position. That means the original video act as background on track 1 and the track 2 contain the same video as 1.

How do i this, if i create a sideshow and there are a lot of vertical images.. Is there no easier way? I know it e.g. from MOVAVI, there is an effect "vertical fill", i just drop this effect on the image in the timeline and thats it..

This is really missing in Video deluxe :-(

@hausl78

Hi,

There have been templates available for this for several versions of Movie Edit Pro/Movie Studio. VideoDeluxe is the non-English name for the same program.

Assuming that you downloaded and installed the additional content, see under the Templates, Design Elements, Image border effects basic. Using one of these will copy the image to tracks 6 and 7. Track 6 will be the background, 7 the foreground in portrait mode. However, both will have effects on them which you can modify yourself.

Thanks guys, yes i know them. But they are all with movement. I just want somenting "stupid boring" like:

Would be great if MAGIX adds someting like this.

Former user wrote on 9/14/2023, 11:33 AM

@hausl78 Hi, I might be wrong but I can't get the Image border effects to apply to all selected, I have to add it to each one & if you do remove the movement I don't think there's a way of saving it, you can save the effects of each of the added tracks but not as a single whole effect, , so that has to be done to each clips border effect 😒

So I have a template saved,

  1. Add any vertical image to the timeline,
  2. Apply Size/Position/Rotation,
  3. Untick combine input fields, set the width & height to the project size so the image fills the screen, mine is set at 3840x2160 because that is my usual project size,
  4. Add Gaussian blur,
  5. Right click on the clip on the timeline - Video Effects - Save Video Effects, name it and save,
  6. This template will show at the bottom of Templates - My Presets
  7. When you create a project, Ctrl+A to select all, hold down Ctrl & drag the selected clips to a lower track,
  8. Select all on the top track & add the template you create - Apply to All when the little window pops up,

I know it's not a simple effect but once you've created this template apart from having to duplicate your clips it's no harder than adding an effect.

PS If you have a Slideshow with transitions doing this might be 'interesting' or not work well with this duplication & added self made template, I doubt it would work well with any type of black bar filler+slideshow

@hausl78

Hi,

Just make your own by following this tutorial.

The only difference is that both objects on tracks 6 & 7 should be renamed to PH1 instead of PH1 and PH2 because they are the same.

As well, there is a file called - ias_config.ini - to which you should add the name of the effect after adding a ; at the end.

Instead of putting it under Collages, which is what it actually is, you can put it all under EdgeEffects (actual border effects folder).

C:\Users\Public\Documents\MAGIX\Common\Videocontent\Movie Edit Pro Premium\VideoEffects\EdgeEffects

Select the correct program which is highlighted the above path as yours may be slightly different.

@hausl78 I had a go with Slideshow maker, just ungroup everything, create a new track at the top, then select all your pics on track two, copy & paste or hold down the Ctrl to duplicate to the top track then add the SPR+Blur template I mentioned above.

@Former user

Hi,

The way I showed allows more than one image. If you look at the tutorial, you'll see that it can be for many objects. What I did was identical to the border effects - 1 image that is duplicated and has different effects on each. All you do is select an object and apply my border effect.

In the Slideshow Maker, click on Effects and the last item under "Intelligent treatment of special images" is "portrait images" and there is a button to the right of that to limit the effects to one or more that you want.

@browj2Hi, to be honest apart from playing around with it I've never used Slideshow in 20yrs (or however long it's been in Magix) & the black bar template i made a long time ago was just for the odd clip I had, I also use Vegas more now which does have Black bar fill which is a single 'stupid boring' fx as @hausl78 calls it that fills the background. So I was just giving an option but thanks anyway.

@hausl78 @browj2 @Former user

I just opened a still in one of my folders using Microsoft's Photo app and set it to slide show and recorded the result with OBS studio.

I could then import that file into MEP, chop it up and cross fade the clips or whatever.

hi... any update on this?

actually, i'm using FWS to achieve this effect easily....

In fact, I'm using Other external programs so much I'm doubting if I can still call myself a "Magix lover"...
