I have some files from created in 2013 and haven't viewed them for years, tried to open since upgrading to Windows 10 and get the following issue.
As these are MVY file I cant get to view them in another programme like VLC or WMP

Does the requested missing file still exist on the computer - use Windows File Explorer to search for it and note its location if found, then point RYVT to that location.
The missing file is a MXV file which is Magix's custom video file format , the MVY file is the project file which does not contain any video, images or audio.

I can see the file hear John but they wont play even in VLC, don't have to view them though RYVT just want to watch them as sentimental !
Hi Jon and welcome to the user to user forums.
MXV files can only be played back using a Magix program and not a normal video player. They are solely for use within their editing programs and meant to be exported in a different format once edited. Their purpose is to have a direct copy of the original file quality wise that would be less stressful on the computer system when editing on lower specified machines. To play it back normally you will first have to open it in a Magix editing program and then export/convert it to another file format such as mpeg 2 or MP4.

As @johnebaker wrote a MXV file ... is Magix's custom video file format (my bolding). In other words, it is a proprietary Magix format, playable only in RYVT, Photostory, Movie Edit Pro or Video Pro X.
