Fade Effects

Hello Magix community. I have been using Magix for quite some time now. The only thing I have a problem with is that it doesn't have any fade in/fade out transitions. I also want to be able to control how long the fade is and maybe might put titles between the transition. Maybe I'm looking in the wrong place, but I can't find any. I'm about to upgrade to ProX7, but I'm not sure if they have added that yet. Has anyone had this problem?

I think you need to look again at what the whole range of VPX versions can offer!!  Not wishing to sound smug or condescending but what you are asking for, assuming I've understood your question, has been possible since before VPX1.

First, have you thoroughly checked through the range of transitions that are available "built-in"?  Also, if you right click on the little A:B icon that appears at the point where two clips meet, you will find on the drop-down list that appears e.g. "Fade through Black", which fades the first clip out to black and the second in from black.  Is that what you are looking for?

As to length of fade, on the same drop-down list I referred to above, towards or at its end you will see "settings"; click on that and a window opens which allows you to set the transition length pretty precisely.  Or you can simply drag the handle that appears on the end of first clip/beginning of second clip backwards or forwards to shorten or lengthen the transition.

I order to place titles between transitions, or more accurately, between clips, you will need to fade out the first clip (again that drop-down menu has this option), leave a small gap where your title can be placed, perhaps on a lower track, and then at the beginning of the second clip, drop-down menu again, "Fade in".

I hope that helps; if it does, please let us know: if not, and I've not properly understood what you're asking, please post back and we fellow-users will do our best to assist you.

I have Edit Pro 15. I also have Edit Pro 14 plus. I am able to set transitions per your description with 14+, but not with 15. When I type in the desired length, (say 1.5 secs) and go back to the track or box, the time jumps to some other setting, usually longer. I have the program on two computers, and it behaves the same on both.

What am I missing?

Hi

. . . . not with 15. When I type in the desired length, (say 1.5 secs) and go back to the track or box, the time jumps to some other setting . . .

I suspect you are not entering the time correctly or completing the entry correctly.

The method I use, using your example 1.5 secs, you do not type in 1.5 but enter the time as secs and frames so 1.5 is entered as

at 25 fps type 0112 and then press the Enter key

at 30 fps type 0115 and then press the Enter key

Note doing it this way you don't use the spinners or click in the transition time dialog - it automatically starts from right to left

If you have different frame rates to the above the the 0.5 portion is half the actual frame rate of the project setting
